Results with Zyban??

Thank You to everyone who has replied. I am overwhelmed by the compassion and camaraderie displayed on here. I am sure you all know how difficult it can be giving up smoking without the right support environment around you so it means a lot. I have looked around but decided to order some Zyban straight away from the site I linked before. I am aware it has some psychological effects but from reading the effects can be quite pleasant overall. Thank You everyone for your support and I will keep you updated.

Thanks for the rapid reply! I really appreciate it. Looking through those threads there is a lot of interesting info. Have you tried Zyban yourself with success? Also, regarding the price can anyone suggest a site selling it for less than the one above ($60 for 60 x 150mg tablets) because given how much smoking costs I don't want quitting to cost me more!

Hello I am a long time smoker and suffering health problems these days as a consequence. I have tried gums, inhalers, patches etc without succeeding. Ditto willpower, avoiding certain situations like bars etc. I have been reading up on the drug Buproprion and it seems like a different way to stop for people - iow, not the same old way of slowly cutting down your nicotine dosage etc. I've seen the drug Zyban on sale at a pharmacy I've bought from before at the moment and am thinking of taking the plunge. Can anyone whose tried it offer any evidence that it can work? I've been smoking for 40 years and really need to stop..

Hi Well the biggest testament to Zyban, has to be my father, All through my life he smoked. I reckon he must have smoked 40 a day, probably for 40+ years... He has been quit free for around 5 years now. I cant believe it, he tried everything, including hypnotherapy, nothing worked long term but Zyban did. My brother quit on it a year ago, this was his first quit. Anyway everyone is different. I am on Zyban, does it work? Yes definately. I think you do still have to want to quit smoking.Dont expect a magic cure - you still have work to do. but I wake up in the morning and dont want to smoke. Its ok, and I really think that this time I will stay nicotine free and not turn back to smoking. It makes you not think about it. Even before your quit date you will probably want to quit, as they make you not want to smoke. Everyone is different and effects are different on everyone. In Uk, you will need to be authorised by your doctor, and have a prescription, I know that at first my brother could not get this on prescription.I did get side affects at first, but that is my body getting used to the drug. You can take it for a period of up to 7 weeks, but they make you go back to the doctors and often only supply 2 weeks at a time, so you have to attend follow up checks to get prescription to see how it is going. Actually reading your post again, you cant be in UK.. as you cant buy it in pharmacies it has to be prescribed. We get it free on NHS. But dont pay the money and expect it to be a miracle pill, you still have to work for it and want it. I can't comment on the drug Buproprion. But I know one thing that will really one with their quit is being prepared. Use the Quit Program Tools to the left of your screen. They will help you. Hi Jameswilliams and Welcome. I had tried a couple of times to stop smoking after having this nasty habit for 37 years and the longest I lasted was 3 months. This time I had my Dr. prescribe "Wellbutrin" (same as Zyban) and for me it worked like a charm, but I think I am safe to say that my mental state was finally ready to stop smoking. Everyone's quit is different and I know that I have read here that for some the Wellbutrin/Zyban gave them negative results. Your best bet is to check with your doctor before purchasing online. As for the cost....I agree with Breaking Free...what is 3 months worth of medications compared to you life..... Hi, jameswilliams. Welcome to the SSC. I quit using Wellbutrin XL for the first month. It's the same thing as Zyban. I honestly have no idea if it actually did anything or not, since I have no other quit experience. I do believe that my success was due to my attitude and committment to my quit and not as a result of the drug. On the other hand, the Wellbutrin did give me the "courage" to take the plunge. So if for no other reason, I feel it did it's job. There are some here who have successfully used it for their quits and some who have not. Everyone is different and there's no way of telling if it works for you until you try it. Regardless of what method you use, breaking this nicotine addiction will require determination, a positive attitude, and comittment. If you start off "trying to quit" or "seeing if you can quit", you'll probably have a rough time of it. Go into it saying "I no longer smoke!" There's a mindset for success. Two suggestions: First, go through this site's Online Quit Program. There's a ton of information and tips to help you succeed. Second, read Alan Carr's book. I think the title is "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking", or something very close to that. I browsed through it after I quit and it pretty much described how I did it, and I smoked a pack a day for 39 years. It must work! :) This is a great decision you've made, jameswilliams. I'm glad you've joined us. No, I haven't tried it myself, but many have had good success with it. You might want to speak to your doc about a generic brand that would do the same job but be less expensive.
