Hey there Timetodoit, Just stop and breathe for a minute, big deep breath in through the nose and out of the mouth. ok.... Stop beating yourself up. Its going to be ok... If you found that none of the coping mechanisims you put in place did not work, take a look at the situation for what it really is, was there another challenge that was thrown in there for you to cope with, one that caught you by suprise? What were you thinking the very moment you went and bought that pack? when you lit that sickarette? what were you thinking? how did that first drag make you feel - nasty i bet. Just hang in there timetodoit. Beleive in yourself once again, beleive that you have the power to do this. Want the quit more than you want that next sickarette. PrincessC :) x

Timetodoit if you feel like crying let it rip. Don't beat yourself up, just get right back on the wagon, what you spend on patches will only be for a couple of months, if you smoke, costs a lot more health wise and money wise. We're here for you :)One day at a time Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,455 Amount Saved: $388 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 19 Mins: 2 Seconds: 46

TTDI- Gosh, {{{{{hugs}}}} :) Starting all over is no fun, but this time you know what to expect and can prepare for it. Get up and brush yourself off, hop back on and hold on tight. After all, it is time to do it! :)

None of my coping mechanisms worked. I worked out, meditated, talked on the phone, rewarded myself with wings. Nothing. I still went back to the nasty cancer sticks. I have a test in 3 days and I'm overloaded as always, but that's no excuse. I told myself yesterday that if I could smoke a pack that I would stay up all night and work. Of course, the nicotine made me feel lazy and apathetic, so I didn't get much accomplished. I woke up reeking of smoke and I had to take 2 showers to get the stench off me. So then I spent the rest of the day feeling guilty that I caved. I hate this. This is my 2nd slip. Now I might have to spend another $40 to buy the patch(and I'm literally hundreds of dollars over my budget for the year) and go thru withdrawals again. I hate smoking. I hate cigarettes. Why do I keep going back?!?! ARGH! I'll be posting here a *lot* the next few days. Brace yourself guys :8o: I went for a drive a few minutes ago, and crushed the remaining cigs one by one and threw them out my window(bad for the environment but hopefully good for my lungs) I'm so frustrated right now I could cry. !!!!!!!! Hi y'all Thanks so much for your replies :) With this test breathing down my neck, I won't have a lot of time to look up coping mechanisms for a few days. The silver lining here is that I've been so busy studying I haven't had a chance to smoke in the past 12 hours lol. Thanks for letting me vent :). OK I gotta get back to studying. Peace! Hi TimeToDoIt - OK so gentle down the energy, dear one... Beating up on yourself serves no one. So it's time for a new commitment to YOU? Take some time and scan your toolbox of coping skills. What will you do when a crave hits? What are some powerful distractions you can turn to in a moment's notice? AND what are you going to do differently this time? If you do the same thing, the same result will present itself. So...this is a new day. You are an addict - nicotine is a very, very powerful addiction, AND the way to stop smoking is ONE MOMENT AT A TIME... Spend some serious time here, reading old posts - do a search for coping skills - read how each of us did it and are doing it. Dig deep, friend. What is the trigger that takes you right back to lighting up? Become an observer right now in your smoking life. Look in and see what's happening - which coping skills work and where do you need to find more ways to keep you from lighting up? You CAN do this, friend! If you want to Quit more than you want to smoke, you will. TTDI... the reason you keep smoking is because you are an addict. We are all nicotine addicts here. Breaking the addiction takes a lot of courage and determination. You say you hate cigarettes, you hate the smell... get mad at the addiction and refuse to let it control you any longer. After you smoked, you didn't feel any better. The reason is because smoking doesn't do a thing for you except feed the addiction. As soon as you put the cigarette out you are longing for the next one. When I quit, I kept reminding myself that each moment I made it through was one moment closer to never feeling this way again. Take one step at a time and one crave at a time. Refuse to give in to the addiction for any reason at all. You are fighting for your life. N.O.P.e. Not One Puff Ever.... that is how we all quit. You CAN do it! Time, Research scientists have found that most people try to quit seven times before they succeed, and unsuccessful quit attempts, while frustrating, are actually part of the process of quitting. But not everyone tries quitting seven times. People who seriously prepare beforehand can successfully quit smoking, even on their first try! Your chances of quitting for good can increase if you view quitting as a journey, or a healing process that your body goes through. We suggest that you see quitting in this light rather than seeing it as an abrupt and uncomfortable change in your personal lifestyle. Our free online quit program is interactive and personalized. Our program is designed to help you quit and the exercises in this program are divided into six major milestones. You can think of each milestone as a destination you're trying to reach. After you complete the exercises in each milestone your car will move along the road map located at the left-hand side of your screen. Although the program will first assess if you're ready to quit, the exercises at the beginning of the program will help remind you of the reasons why you quit in the first place. Don't get frustrated, ex-smokers have told us that the exercises at the beginning of the program gave them confidence and helped them reaffirm their personal commitment to remain smoke free. Please continue to post your concerns within our support group. As you can already see, we are all here to help you succeed! Today is a new day! Let's move forward :). Stay strong, Melanie _____________________________ The SSC Support Team
