This has been a rewarding yet tough journey these last few weeks, but all worth it. This weekend I have to fly out of town for business. It's only a day trip, but man I am looking forward to going to the airport and not having to find a place inside or go outside to smoke. Getting through the airport is hectic enough now a days. Just looking forward to getting through there in a relaxed state of mind. This how stupid I was when it came to smoking. Last year a bunch us flew for vacation, ended up having an extended layover of about 3 hours due to weather. So what did us smokers do. Since it was a nonsmoking airport, we had to go outside to smoke. In order to do this, we had to leave our luggage with our friends, go up a couple of escalators, past security, and another 50-60 yards or so before we could go out into a snowstorm in 20 degree weather to have a smoke. Once there you know we had to smoke 2-3 cigs in about 15 minutes, because we didn't know when we would get our next fix. Upon going back into the airport, we had to go through the security check point, which luckily was not that busy at the time, back down the escalators and find where our friends may have moved to. The scary part is, we did this 3 or 4 times in this 3 hour period. Thank you all for making the beginning part of this journey a success, and all your continued support as I move forward. Hi Freebird, Congratulations on almost being out of "Blah-Week" Yes, it is much nicier to fly when you don't feel the need to smoke. I go to Europe from California a lot, and on one return trip we had a short stop to pick up more people at an airport in USA and there were no place to smoke. After a 10 hours flight I could do anything for a cigaratte - and I did. I went through the custom and out the doors and lighted up. I knew it might be difficult for me to get back in because I only had my seat-ticket, no boarding card. I smoked my cigaratte and yes - I had a very though time to get back on the plane again. I can tell you my husband were very upset with me for delaying the flight....I can't believe I was that stupid! :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 233 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,505 Amount Saved: $1048.5 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 6 Mins: 38 Seconds: 11

What about those smoking rooms with glass walls so you could look out into the airport at all the people that weren't smoking? When I went through that airport after I quit, I watched them and I saw the smokers of the "glass box" in a totally different light. No one really talked, someone was always coughing or clearing their throats. Little eye contact was made. Some were seated, some were leaned against the wall, some crouched down. Some were practically "hotboxing" because they were running late for their flight but they "had" to stop. All of them were either recovering from a "flight withdrawal" or preparing to postpone the next withdrawal by taking in as much as they could before departure. Sort of sad really. Now they appear as caged addicts on display for the non-smokers to see. Like you, I'm glad I don't have to do that kind of thing anymore... and I'm fairly certain the person that was forced to sit within nose range of me on my flights is probably glad too. :) Looks like you're doing great with your quit.
