Hi Jan - I agree, there should be rehab for smokers. Those first days sometimes feel unbearable and the first few weeks can be murder. I remember how hard it was to quit and try to focus on the jobs that had to be done at the same time and it is really HARD! I actually went on the Internet looking for a local support group when I got the information about SCC. It would be nice to have that support locally so I would have fellow quitters that I could meet for coffee, go to a show, etc. (because they would understand if I was grumpy, angry or maybe couldn't go and would be just as excited about the good times as I was) Having said that, if I only had the option of one or the other, I think I would choose SCC. There is nowhere else that I can go any time of the day and get support. If I have a problem or a question, I don't have to wait until the meeting to share them. I'm so glad you are back with us. I may be reverting to "SURVIVAL" mode soon - we will see. I am gradually learning that some of the advice has been really helpful (i.e. switching up my routine as much as possible, REWARDS (lots and lots of rewards). I don't think I realized how important they are. In the meantime, may catch up with you for a brief time, before I crawl under my blankets tonight! WAY TO GO JAN AND SPARKY!!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 771 Amount Saved: $190 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 15 Mins: 51 Seconds: 16

I was just thinking about how nicotine is just as hard an addiction to break as heroine or cocaine.(I've heard and read that before) I know there are rehab places for drug abuse, too bad there wasn't one for smokers. Where you didn't have to the face the stresses and demands of everyday life for a while. You could just...well...concentrate on you. This isn't the case though, and anyhow, I guess we'd just have to face real life at some point. I suppose its better to deal with life day by day as a new non smoker. Perseverance and hard work are what's going to get us there. Just my thought. They actually do have an in house rehab for smokers. I did some research on it. I thought the cost was insane. I go to a live stop smoking group. Live, once a week. There are quitters from no days to 5 years in this groiup. I has been very helpful. I am however in Canada and in Ontario and each hospital that I have been in in the past two years has groups that meet to help kick the habit. Check it out. I happen to go to CAMH and they have a whole stop smoking unit with wonderful face to face counsellors and a staff that are very willing to help. And it is all covered by my health insurance. The stresses that are created in the body from in ingestion of nicotine are far greated than without nicotine. The nicotine or the other chemicals actually build plaque in the veins and harden and majke the veins in your body brittle. Stopping smoking will reduce your stress. Look at your blood pressure reduce as soon as you are quit for a few hours. The longer you are quit the more likely you are to be less stressed. There are 12 step programs to quit smoking here in California. You might call a hospital where you live (one would think they would know) and see if there is a group close to you. I didn't go but it's smart to use every resource available to you. Good luck and congrats on quitting.
