I believe it was Charles Dickens that said "quitting smoking is easy, I've done it many times. I suppose many of us have gone through the same cycle. I had quit smoking for 18 years(cold turkey) and felt I could conquer the world.Three years ago I retired from the Post Office and got together with an old girl friend that smoked and drank. Two deadly combinations. Being retired and not having planned wisely, I having too much time on my hands started spending more and more time with this friend. I asked her for a smoke and thats when my world changed. In a matter of a week I was smoking two packs a day. And starting to dislike myself more and more. why? because I had fallen into the trap. I believe that there's no such thing as an X smoker just as there is no such thing as an x alcoholic. We must always be on alert. I am no longer with this person so I believe this has helped. It took one smoke and three years to finally quit. Yes, Cold Turkey. It's been nine days. How do I keep strong? I keep remembering the years I didn't smoke and how bad the people that smoked smelled when they passed me by.No matter how pretty I thought a women was the smell would make me turn away. I remember when I did smoke how children would make faces and many even hold their noses. All these things I applied to myself. Because if you remember, when you smoke you don't smell anything. Is doing it cold turkey hard? yes it's hard. This is only one way of dealing with this habit. There are many others, patches, gum, prescription medications. But I believe the best thing to have is DETERMINATION.
