I just HAVE to respond...I have stories of my own children that would curl a bald man's hair!
I have 5 children-24, 21, 19, 16 and 10. I have seen the older ones through drug abuse, alcoholism, mental illness, smoking, etc...
YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING!!! I promise. I am a firm believer in tough love. I also think we need to try to set a good example (not passing judgement, I often fail in this arena). Your daughter may hate you for your restrictions from certain people and activities now, but later in life will thank you for trying. Understand that you, as a previous smoker, introduced her to this habit. Just as my parents did me, and I have done my children. Educate her on the evils. I have NEVER met a smoker who was glad they started. My oldest three smoke as adults and I recently found out the 16 year old prefers his nicotine in the form of dip (yuck). I cannot do anything about the adults..they are adults. The 16 year old knows he is not allowed, what the consequences are if caught...but I imagine he will still sneak around (just as I did). The best thing you can do for her is to let her see you quit. Share your struggles and thoughts with her along the way. Hopefully she will 'see the light' before she is dependent on them! Good luck and God bless.
My second suggestion would be to lock her up until she's 18!!!
