Nobody has smoked in my home for 20 years. Overall I think people today, including a lot of smokers, are used to a smoke-free indoor environment. At least they are not offended when expected to do this at other people's houses. You call the shots. [b]I HAVE banned smoking in my home! I won't even allow anyone to use the balcony. If someone cannot go without a cig for an hour or two then that's their problem. I have come too far in my quit and I'm protecting it with everything I have. I have cleaned my home, my clothes - EVERYTHING and I don't want to EVER have that smell in here again. My body is healing from years of smoking and I won't have that compromised either! I can barely stand the smell of smoke on another's body and their clothes - can't do much about that but I can certainly control what goes on INSIDE my home! I didn't really believe what they were saying about passive smoking until today. A friend has just left after 2 hours sitting chatting in my living room. She smoked 3 cigarettes. My head was spinning, throat sore and nose was running. Gosh!I did not smoke but felt as though I had. Anyway I think I am going to ban people from smoking in the house. How sad is that? My nice clean fresh smelling house smells disgusting. I've been round with the air freshener and had the doors open, but it still smells.I think I was also very nervous during the visit in case my withdrawal kicked in and I got a craving. Not so far....so I am lucky. Hope I didn't breath in too much because I get my carbon monoxide reading tomight at the counselling session. I have been thinking about my non smoking friends and how they must have felt in my house when I smoked. NASTY! I too have had to ban smoking in the home, shop and car. It bothers me, because when I smoked, I wouldn't bother going to see a non-smoker. If they wanted me over for some reason, it's THEIR problem, not mine. If they wanted a ride in my car, it's THEIR problem, not mine. I was a militant activist smoker. Years ago when I quit smoking, I was much nicer. People could smoke in my home, car, work. Nothing bothered me. Now it's different. Cigarette smoke makes me physically ill. My throat closes up and I cannot breathe. I have had to ban all smoking and hope everyone understands that I wouldn't take this drastic step unless it was absolutely necessary. Hi susie, you have to keep your own home environment smokefree. Your guests will just have to learn to respect it ot leave. I was honestly shocked when I read your post.
