I am in no place to give any great advice right now, becuase I have been feeling just as low lately. But know that I am praying for you to remember the strength you have, and your resolve in this quit. A slip is just part of the learning process. Take from it and know that smoking is not really what you want. It doesn't really make you feel better. You are stronger than you realize just by enduring in the circumstances you do everyday. Alot of people will never understand what it is like, and you deserve credit just for trying to better your life while so many around you seem to be self- destructing. (Please belive me, I have been there and I know you will make it) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/15/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 469 Amount Saved: $148.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 4 Seconds: 59

Redy, don't be so hard on yourself. Facing all of that...weaker people would have done much more than have a cig. You proved that you can do 29 days, so get back on the wagon and do it again. You know what to expect...and you know the support you have here. The smoking didn't make the problems go away, did it? We're all with you! Have faith in us, because we have faith in you! Redy: I am SO sorry you're having such a tough time, but you know what? In reading your two posts, after getting through the self-disgust, I can also hear the determination you have and that's a VERY good thing! You are going through a lot right now and as you so accurately pointed out, smoking didn't help a single one of those issues. But just know that those 29 days were REAL, very real. You PROVED to yourself that you CAN quit smoking. Remember "NOPE" and "Smoking is not an option". Those two things have been the most helpful for me when I face a smoking test. Ok, I won't smoke, so what else can I do to get through this moment? YOU CAN DO THIS -- you're very strong and we are here for you any time or any way you need us, you know that. I'm glad you posted and vented and ranted -- I'm sure it all helped. I'm coming up on 5 months on my quit (miracle!), but I've learned that I'm GLAD I've faced some difficult moments in my life since I quit. The fact that I could face them without smoking just makes me feel that much stronger about my ability to quit. I may not have confidence in ALL aspects of my world right now, but I do on this one and I'm very proud of that. Glad to see you back on board. Tons of hugs -- keep the faith, Redy! Hi Ready You are right - Sometimes life is just so unfair. I am sorry that you have so many worries in your family and at work and I can imagine how much it must hurt to see your boyfriend getting married. Unfortunately smoking won't make any of those situations better. In fact, smoking will make your life worse. Think about why you wanted to quit. Think about how hard you worked to get those 29 days? Do you really want to give away that strength and power? Come on...get rid of the smokes...We will be here to help you along the way. Redytoquit Look at the bright side, you quit for 29 days! That shows that you are able to quit. The circumstances got way out of hand, truly sorry. As you know smoking did not help you, we just have to keep that in mind when troubling situations happen to us. The motto that I like smoking is not an option is my guiding light. Try adopting this one. The idea is when something troublesome happens and smoking thoughts occur, you just use self talk and say No, this will not help me. You do sound ready to continue the quit, so we shall. You know what? There are a lot of us in this world that have a whole $hi+ load of personal probs. Your 'failed' attempt was NOT a failure. It was a practice run for the 'real' thing that is to follow immediately. I quit, smoked, quit, smoked...etc... for awhile until I FINALLY realized that I was in perpetual withdrawal by my own actions. If your daughter tattoed her boyfriends name on herself, be thankful she spelled his name correctly (assuming it IS spelled correctly...) Your sister is living with a drug addict. Be there for her without enabling. She has to live with the decisions she makes. As for your own (ex) boyfriend.....(?) Time to go frequent places where you will meet a nice guy...this guy sounds like trouble and the sooner you are rid of him the better. Smoking....won't help you solve any of life's problems. Let's try to figure out what path to take from here and how to deal with things..... Redytoquit, You are not a "fool" - you are a nicotine addict! All of us on the SSC are too (addicts, not fools..well maybe a little of both!). I am sorry that you have so much on your plate right now - it sounds really overwhelming! To top off all of the stressors in your life right now, it sounds like smoking today added another source of regret/sadness. But, the good news is, you now have a choice - a choice of whether to be a smoker or not. I kept putting off my quit because of different life stressors - I'd rationalize: "this is not a good time to quit because...(my boyfriend broke up with me, my mom is really sick, etc)". Then I realized that life is always going to be full of stressors and there is no such thing as a good or bad time to quit. Rather, my addiction was trying to talk me out of quitting. I listened to this addiction for years and years. Now, I'm fighting hard to ignore those addiction thoughts. So, with all of the hardship you're going through, you deserve something good for yourself - I can't think of a better gift than a healthy smoke-free life. It's time for you to focus on and take care of yourself instead of everyone else! You CAN do it! Redytoquit - Those 29 days are not wasted days. You've smoked 744 less cigs, you've saved $116, and you've gained over 3 days to your life. You've proven that you want to quit and you can quit. You've learned that when you feel overwhelmed & down, smoking DOES NOT help. Over these past 29 days you've built a foundation to lean on. Cheers to you! redytoquit, You have a lot to work through, and you know that smoking is not going to make any of this go away. My heart goes out to you, with all of the stress you have I'm glad you posted to just vent. You needed to do this. And as I said on the other post crying is a great stress reliever. Just don't stay in the pity pot too long. Welcome back and remember to take one day at a time or one minute at a time. This journey has so many different turns, and bumps in the road. They are what I call situations, we have to learn how to handle the situations and not smoke. Is it hard? You bet it is!! But we can do it, and I know that you CAN DO it too. We have to remember that this addiction will still try to control our actions, thoughts and anything else we allow it to control. We have to take control to be successful. Stay strong, determined, committed, and stay in control.
