Hi windy and faithfreedom,
Wow, I finished the book this afternoon...it blew my mind and is just what I needed. When I first put the book down, I was going to change my quit date to tomorrow (and just quit today) but thought about it for a while and decided I'd wait to see the Doctor first. It's been 6 hours since finishing the book and I've smoked 1 (not too bad, could have held off the craving, but thought nope I'm not masacistic enough to go cold turkey).
Faith, your post was like I'd just written it myself!!! I'm just shy of 35 years of smoking heavily too. The light bulb was lighting up for me as well. I was so elated to know that I can and will be free! Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I feel I need to reread the book as much as I can between now and quitting and have yet to watch the dvd's that came with it. I also still have some plans to make for craving busters and a few activities to round up for freedom day! I want to give my body time to catch up with all the cutting back I've done and finish off some plans to change the where's and when and how I smoke. I want to do everthing I can to make this to work on my 1st try on the 28th.
Windy, I'm not going to ask for an NRT but will go for one of the nicotine free pills, as I understand now that NRT's will only prolong my addiction and I want it over with as quickly as possible. I'm cutting back from 35-45 per day, so I think (I'm well under 15 on average for the past week and will be under 10 today and down to 6 or less by quit day)combined with using the pills, the book and having all my plans in place will give me the best chance to make the 28 the first day of my new life! I realize this is still not going to be a painless walk in the park, but I feel much more confident and at ease about the future. :) The queasy dreaded feeling is gone and now I'm looking forward to the 28th like never before. LOL, glad you're looking forward to it, because I may not be so confident on the 29th and may be begging for your help!
Thanks again everyone and if necessary in advance for all your help.
Lady (bows to all the non smokers)
