Well, I can now respond to my own post from this time last year....My response is that whoever made the 5-year comment to me is a schmuck! Not only was that person wrong, but that's a very discouraging thing to say to someone 9 days into their quit. Gheez! Stickin to it - thanks for your wise, insightful, & inspirational thoughts! Five months is more like it, but the first month is definately the worst! I can't even remember the last time I had an urge to smoke! Bumping you, stickin, because this is such a great post. Yes, there is a wonderful light and it DOES NOT TAKE FIVE YEARS to see it. Wherever you are in your journey in life, if you look closely, you will begin to see the glimmer. Keep following it. This is the road that you are on. Guide yourself, be aware of that goal, picture it and how it is so worth it. The Final Stages of the Journey I have resurrected this post up because many are cresting, top of the hill, and it is important for newer quitters to know that the top of the hill is closer than imaginable. Stickin to it at day 230: I am at the point in my quit, some 230 days, that the act of smoking has become a distance memory. To forget the memories of smoking is what I consider part of the quit goals, not to forget that I once smoked. With the fading of the memories there goes the fading of those triggers and normalcy begins to take hold. I know I dont need or want to smoke. My last serious urge came around my fifth month of quit, a trigger came out of nowhere and I had to stop what I was doing and take up another activity. Im not feeling any urges at all anymore and havent for a couple of months. Today I am a non-smoker, and wonder why I didnt quit so much earlier. If you stay with the program you will be happy, self confident, and a healthier individual. I am glad that you came to this site. It shows that you have the desire, and with that desire, hope, and that yes, yes, it can be done. Look around; see how so many can succeed. It is their will to succeed, their can do, want to, will do, positive attitude and actions. Think positive, use distractions, up, up and over, the top of the hill!

:) Me, too. You know, I have simple memories of smoking with a true occassional urge. But again, they are less in intensity and less frequent as well. It REALLY does get easier as time goes on! Thank you! It helps to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Someone said to me last night..."The first week is horrible, and the first month is a struggle....but after 5 years it get's easier." UGH!!!! 5 more years of feeling this way sounds unbearable! Anyway, glad to hear how much better it does get (and that it doesn't necessarily take 5 years).
