Formyson -- God love you, it's not enough. Your reasons for quitting can't come at you from the outside. Hypnosis won't work. Accupunture won't work. Drugs won't work. The patch, the gum, the inhaler won't work.
It has to start from a place deep, deep within yourself. It has to be a longing, a yearning... indeed a life-and-death comulsion for freedom.
Until you name, touch, affirm, and honor that most elemental need in yourself to be nicotine free, nothing will work.
Everything else is good -- God knows it's all wonderful -- but it is a collection of tools and resources to help you live with a decision you made at the very core of your being.
What do you all think? Am I wrong here? I'm thinking that this group, as wonderful as it is, cannot induce a quit. I'm thinking that the most powerful drug ever devised will not induce a quit. We're here to uphold and support, not to induce.
And now for the worst part? As long as we're quitting for someone else, they can be put on hold until the crisis du jour is resolved. We do it all the time. ("Oh. Okay, Honey, I'll take care of you first [puff puff puff] and then think about my own life and death once your immediate needs are met [puff puff puff].)
As someone far wiser than I pointed out a long time ago here, we're on the airplane, and we have to put our own O2 mask on before we can help our kids. God forgive me for saying it, but the quit can't be formyson, formydaughter, formyspouse, or foranyonelse. The quit absolutely has to be all about me.
So that I can be the very best I can be for you.
How much does this suck!!!
