Glad to hear that you saw your Doctor without delay. I just love your positive attitude. You have always been such an encouragement to everyone. Well, we are your cheering club now! Parrot Lady. First let me say that I am soooo glad that you posted. I did a search on you just today. I suspected it wasn't good news. Now I'm gonna read your post, but had to say that first. hey, hey, hey honey. Take it down a notch. go slow, go easy. don't forget the part about pampering yourself and doing whatever you have to do the make this work. Try to eliminate, as much as possible other obligations. It sounds as though your husband is supportive. Post even before you quit. you are still struggling with smoking issues. let's face it, i just wanna hear from you. i've never in my life done IM, not even sure what it means. you asked me once if i did IM. i would start it for you (now if i b/c a social butterfly after that and am hard to track down on IM, that's another story - just kidd'n). It's 11:15 where I am right now. tomorrow I'll explore getting on IM. pass a good night. Hello my sweet dear friend.......... You know where I am.. you have my number, email and when you want or need to talk, please contact me. It's an awful thing.. depression does immobilize and when it comes it's often slow and very sneaky. Take good care of you. Be gentle on yourself, pamper and as you told me earlier, do what makes you feel good - shopping is a good thing ! :) I Love you .. Well, here I am, with a new quit date ready to go. Depression hit so hard I could not function. I would sit around the house and stare at the walls. I just shut down completely. Slowly spiraling into darkness. So, since I'm in the psych field, I of course did nothing about it.... except smoke. So, I of course did nothing about that, either, for several days, and then I came to, and said to myself, self, what are you doing? The long and the short of it is that finally I went to the doctor and they said "you're depressed". Duh. Shrug. Whatever. So they put me on Wellbutrin/Zyban and said set your quit date for 5 days after you start that, and then add the patches. Shrug. Whatever. I already feel loads better. It's very strange, but I have done more in the last 3 days than I did in the previous 2 months. I would think that I would be more aware of the symptoms, but it's so very insidious and has such a slow onset. And of course, you don't really care about much of anything when you get to that point. So if you are not doing the things that you used to enjoy (like posting here on the SSC) or reading, or video games, or cards, or gardening, or your favorite craft, or anything like that, please do go get checked for depression. It seems that smoking tends to mask depression quite a bit, per my doctor. Who knew? So, my new quit date is 1-17-07, and I will be back online again. So sorry to have just dissappeared, but I did not seem able to mobilize much thought or action at all, and I hope this helps others who are struggling with depression as well. Oh, thank you, all of you, for responding as you have. I have been having trouble thinking what to say and you all made it easier. I have to go to work (no internet on dayshift alas) now, but will be available on IM some of the time. DeeKaySss will find me on any of them. I got a new phone that has all the newest gadgets to keep me connected to all of you. And a special thank you to those of you who called me just to see if I was ok. That tipped the balance and got me to go to the doc. And now I can, indeed, be excited about my new quit. Shevie, I am being monitored very closely by the doctor and the quit smoking guru at my HMO, so worry not, it's covered. Love and hugs to all, Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/17/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Denise Dang that sure is a bum deal. I got all depressed somewhere in my quit. Don't remember when but I dug in my cabinet and found Welbutrin from one of my failed attempts and only had to take it for a few days and I was fine. I would not use patches. I just don't understand the NRT. But the Welbutrin is good. Why not try the Chantix. And because of you I can do this.
