Katiescarlet, Sorry about the passing of your Dad. Thank you for this post. Your post should be posted for all of the members here to see, and especially our new members. Each of them have fears about kicking this habit...and staying quit in times of duress. "You didn't have the urge to smoke"...that's what they need to see. So many of them believe that the first major crisis will cause them to crave. Not true members... When you have 2 months behind you NICOTINE FREE, you should be good to go. Use this early time practicing trigger disassociation... auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,185 Amount Saved: $204.25 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 0 Mins: 24 Seconds: 19

Katie, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. My condolences go out to you and your family during this time. I am going through something very similar with my grandfather right now... he is 89 and has been married to my grandmother for 67, almost 68 years. So, I can definitely relate. In the midst of crises, isn't it nice to have that good feeling that you don't want to smoke? I had the same thought while going through this time with my grandfather... I have thought about smoking, only to terms of "I really don't want to smoke!" It's odd that I don't, but that desire hasn't really hit me either. So again, I can relate. I think that our bodies finally "get it" that we are non-smokers now. I don't even feel like an ex-smoker anymore... I feel like somebody who has never smoked (but still can relate to those who do smoke or are currently quitting if that makes sense). You and I quit right around the same time in June of 2005 and I think that we've finally taken that next step to final freedom! Isn't that awesome?!?! Congrats on your awesome stats! Way to go on almost 600 days! Can you believe it?!?! Crave the Quit! Hello Katie, My condolences to you and your family. I hope the wonderful memories you and mom have of your dad will carry you through the tough times. I am glad you have so much conviction in your quit. You've have totally "arrived" as a non-smoker a while ago, but think you have just now really felt like it. Either way, I am glad for you and that meter looks fantastic! This new year has brought one of my worst fears, the passing of my dad. He passed away on January 22. It was sudden and unexpected. He was 88, would have turned 89 March 14th. Had a nice, long life, but still, so hard. My mom is devastated. They were married 63 years, she's staying with me now for the time being. I need to stay strong for her. I did not smoke. It's funny but the urge to smoke was not there. I thought for sure this would have been the reason to start smoking again, but I didn't. Once again my gratitude for this site. All of you have helped my journey to achieve a smoke free life.
