Windy, Doing the race is wonderful! my sponsor at the smoking cessation group here where I live, have meeting at the hosp. here wants me to do a walking marathon in June, by then I will sure be up to it, will be 4 months by then of me being a non- smoker, isn't this great!!!!!!! Windy I understand this is a mini triathalon but mini is a matter of perspective. I am guessing there aren't too many of us on this site that would even try one event in a mini triathalon! So you should be proud of what you are doing and who knows it might lead you to try the big one someday. Keep training, keep your quit and you will be back to age 15 form in no time ! Good luck with your triathalon training. I am a newbie here but am a big fan of tri-atheletes. My company used to sponsor the Iron Man series and I went to a number of events including their championships in Kona (as a spectator). These events were some of the most inspirational things I have ever seen with people from 18 - 80 participating. It really made me feel pretty lazy and worthless ! Anyway best of luck to you. For the past 5 years I have belonged to the same gym. As a smoker, I used to drag myself there twice a week in the hope that maybe I was undoing some of the damage that I was doing to myself and trying to keep my weight down. I didn't really LIKE it!! Since I quit smoking, exercise has become my new coping technique. The rougher the life gets, the more I have to go to the gym (which means I've been there quite abit lately). Anyway, twice a year the gym hosts a mini triathalon. I would see the sign up sheets and always wonder how come these people would actually force themselves to do this. Well...this week another lady suggested a join their mini-triathalon training group and I thought "Why not??" The goal is just to finish AND now that I don't smoke, I can actually run and bike for alot longer than I ever could. So............tomorrow night it's off for my first training session...Hope I'm as enthusiastic then! Well - I have to be clear that this is a MINI triathalon...nowhere close to the real thing but it's still a challenge for me. Tonight was weights and swimming. I kept swimming after the class was over (blowing water up my nose - slightly bloated now)....Anyway...I kept swimming to see if I could do all the lengths and it felt great. I used to take lessons and swim 30 or 40 lengths at a time. In fact, I swam right up until I was 15 and havent swam more than one or two lengths since. Well...I bet you can guess what I did start doing when I was 15!! Yep.......that's when I became a smoker. I remember thinking that it was not possible to quit something that I had been doing since I was 15. As my quit went on, I wished that I could remember what it felt like before I was 15 and became an addict. Well........tonight I got a little taste of it....The freedom to swim lengths without my addiction hanging over my head. (Now if only I could remember how I avoided blowing water up my nose!!)
