Hi Lady,
I'm a sort of "middely" and out of a whole bunch of people who quit in May '06, there only seem to be a couple of us who check in now and again, (hi there D2Q !) But I remember all of the Smobers, 600 - 700 days quit, with great fondness and gratitude because you were the ones giving me a helping hand, a friendly kick in the right direction and most importantly the confidence to remain committed to overcoming nicotine addiction.
There is definitely a time to move on, people joke about the addiction to SSC as being malaptive transference but I defy anyone to deny that at some point, the virtual family of the SSC was just as important, if not more so, than our own families in those early days of withdrawal. Go on.... tell the truth and shame the devil!! But there is a sense of loss at times. I regularly see the new "virtual families" forming, storming and then dropping out of sight. But letting go is hard. You know it should happen, like growing up, but it needn't be final and checking back in occasionally isn't a maudlin sign of weakness, surely!!
But anyway, to the newbies, I can tell you that at my stage of the quit, almost one year done, I feel there's a sense of balance back in my life. No longer consumed with smoking thoughts, and after 35 years dedicated and heavy smoking I didn't think that would be possible. My concentration is now on weight loss! I'm with Luna in wishing that I'd been a bit more vigilent cos I can't loose it as quick as I gained it !!
My best gain, though, is the total freedom from addiction and all the imprisonnment in anxiety that comes with addiction and so all of it was so worth while.
Thank you, my virtual family and my best regards to you all. Lilly :)
