Paul, I did exactly the same thing. My original quit date was April 1, 2004. I smoked 2 cigarettes on May 1. I didn't not change my quit date from April to May for a year. I figured, that month counts. Now after 3 years, those two cigarettes don't matter at all anymore and I changed my quit date to may first when I smoked my last 2. Don't worry, you'll just use it as an excuse to smoke again. You know how to stop those quilt feeltings? Quit doing the things that makes you feel quilty. Hang in there. It will get better. I promise. Hi Paul, I had many fall downs before my self, I hated my self for weeks, but it made me stronger. What i did was got back on my routine again of not smoking. Don't feel bad about it, just learn from it.

Paul, You've got a very good quit under your belt. You're going to do even better this time. I'm sorry to hear about your job, that's tough luck and I sincerely hope things turn around for you. Don't add insult to injury by smoking again. Take up the slack and get back on track. You can do it!

Paul - I would reset my meter (my opinion only) and start over and make sure to also really get why this happened - this is an addiciton from Hell, and you were not grounded or focused on your quit. Go back and get as much clarity as possible, as this can happen again if you aren't clear about the slip. Maybe post here before smoking and wait for 10 responses? Stay close to this site and NO SMOKING! Paul, There is no reason to throw in the towel!! No Big deal.... tomorrow your stats will read 39 instead of 40... In the scheme of things.....so what? The big deal is not to learn what you "should have done" to ease the tension about your job. You will be upset about your job tomorrow and the day after also....so "today" is the day you decide what you will do when you are upset about your job. So say.... instead of smoking I will________________ (you fill in the blank) Paul..... how I wish that in the past when I had messed up I didn't go back....but moved forward. My stats would have read 3,978 days instead of 3,979! Get my drift? The only difference a day makes is if you go back to where you were...."a smoker" I know how you feel...and I wish I could say something to make you feel better........but then again..... it is how we see the irony of the whole thing that eventually makes us successful quiters. Don't be too hard on yourself! Get back in there and get yourself a plan of action. Have those coping mechanisms ready and take some you time to refocus and do what is right for you. We are ready when you are! Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Paul, Do not be so down on yourself...sometimes life does not go as planned, and even if things went TERRIBLY bad, smoking will not help or assist the situation. You have to do you, and so, get back up, reset your meter, and continue to be smoke-free. Hey Paul, I know you feel down about smoking those cigarettes. But look at how many you have NOT smoked over the last 39 days. You can't just write those off....they still count. So, you really have to pick youself up now, dust yourself off, and keep going. Keep adding to that tally of cigarettes not smoked. That's something to feel good about there. I know you felt stressed out about your job and you felt you needed to be comforted by falling back on old smokie. But, it just added to your problems because now you feel down because you did smoke. Try some other coping skills for stress/nervousness other than smoking. Avoid those triggers....Well, if you're worried about your job I think you should talk to your boss. It goes a long way when you ask you boss, "How do you think I can improve on my job performance?" The worst thing for you right now is waiting, wondering if you're going to lose your job. Take that "Not Knowing" thing away and speak to your boss.....find out one way or another. At least you'll know something for sure and then you can deal with it. Paul - You can learn from this and move on. Really think about the emotions you were feeling when you wanted that smoke. Then think about how you could channel them differently next time. Did having those smokes change your work situation? Could they possibly save your job? Did they really make you feel better? I think the answers are NO, NO and NO! Get right back on your quit. And I agree, maybe something better is just ahead and your non-smoking self will help get you there. Paul, Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and put one foot in front of the other and don't look back...You can do it...Remember the reasons why you wanted to quit...and focus on them...Come on look at those stats...You know you can do this...look how far you have come....As for your job...Think about the positives of the situation....Your probably saying WHAT? No seriously, Maybe it is time to move forward with your new life....Being a non smoker is a totally new thing now...Maybe....It is a new life all around for you...Think positive....You quit for 39 DAYS WOW! You can do IT! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 166 Amount Saved: $36 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 1 Seconds: 51
