Patch Users... ???

The box says you shouldn't cut them in half so I'm not going to. I am however going to step down here on Saturday to step 2 14mg. I was going to go for 6 weeks on step 1 but I'm ready and waiting to feel the withdrawl and I'm going to face it head on and get r' done. I feel good at this point, not really craving or thinking about smokes but well see how next week goes with step 2. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 675 Amount Saved: $94.50 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 23 Mins: 12 Seconds: 2

Please don't get the impression I am urging anyone to shorten the patch scheduling. I just know this is what is right for me and that I was ready for the step down... and like Maria, I have had no noticable cravings on my two step dows and am actually looking forward to being patch free. I have quit before too (that time I used the patch only for a week... but given I didn't slip until month eight I can't blame by return to smoking on my patch schedule really...!). My point was more that each person probably has their own 'schedule'... and one trick which has been useful is the cutting patches in half as then you are freer about when you do your step down (eg you don't have to do it on a certain day just because that's how many patches you have left... you can continue to buy the same level patches but cut them in half). Hi There I stuck to the full programme and did it by the letter - 6 weeks on 21mg, 2 weeks on 14mg and 2 weeks on 7mg. This worked for me - had no noticeable cravings on each step down and hardly noticed coming off them totally. There must be a reason the programme is designed like this? I would say don't rush it - do what feels right for you. I personally could not have quit without the patches and am so grateful I decided to give them a go and ignored all those who told me I hadn't really quit if I was using them! Take care Maria x My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,450 Amount Saved: 470.40 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 14 Mins: 12 Seconds: 11

Hey Janie, Just a word, Caution! I have done that before,(without success) but this quit I went nine weeks, as I wanted to make sure that there was no major problems. We are here if you need us, but keep a couple of patches around,(just in case) when it's time to drop off.....better to be safe.... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 91 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,275 Amount Saved: $960.05 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 3 Mins: 49 Seconds: 17

Hiya MamaG I am using patches and have been totally delinguent about the schedule on the pack and the proper step down procedure. So you may want to stop reading right now!! For one week I used Step 1 21mg For two weeks I used Step 1 21mg patches CUT IN HALF (tip from a miserly friend who pointed out it was cheaper than buying the 14mg patches...) From today, I am on to Step 1 21mg patches cut into QUARTERS! Saving $ aside, this has saved me the headache of stocking up on different size patches and planning my step down... I've just done it when the mood strikes me and when I feel ready. I'll probably get rid of the patches (quarter patches) all together in a couple of weeks. I know this is "ahead of schedule" but I am feeling fine with a faster step down and am actually looking forward to throwing away the crutch soon. Oh yeah, I'm a patch user. Patches and Zyban. I couldn't do this without them. 21 mg - 6 weeks, 14 mg - 4 weeks and 7 mg - 4 weeks. Don't step down too soon. That's how trouble arises. Keep up the great work, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 90 Amount Saved: $27.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 10 Mins: 15 Seconds: 53

I started at step 1 and used each for two weeks only. If you're absolutely certain you're ready to quit, I'd say go for it. Basically I just bought the two weeks' worth and made the decision on the day it came to buy the next pack whether I wanted to drag out the inevitable or 'git r done' as another post somewhere said... You know you, so go with your gut! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,404 Amount Saved: 814.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 8 Mins: 53 Seconds: 54

I'll be there after I get Boss up with a beer in my hand! I gotta keep that hand/mouth cordination up! :p Yeah, I'm thinking it means the latter, not to use step one for more than 8 weeks but I'll call my pharmacist to make sure. I was planning on a 6 week total using step one but I've been throwing around the idea of going to step two next time. I dunno, I just wanna move ahead right into step two in two weeks for some reason. I'm just undecided right now. Maybe I'll see how these two weeks end up and go from there. MaMaG, I'm pretty sure it means no more than 8 weeks on step 1, but there should be instructions with them. See you for the party tomorrow!
