I'm stuck

Thanks Debbie.
I do believe that when we quit smoking, we learn things about ourselves that we never dreamed of. Because when we were smoking, we muted our view of everything with a thin blue veil of smoke. Now that we are out there, living life head on, not hiding our feelings, we have a whole new self to deal with.
Isn't THAT the truth! I used to keep to myself but now I am the neighborhood cop! Honestly. I have the same kind of bike cops use and I ride around the neighborhood making sure everybody is behaving. What is up with that! I got the bike to get a handle on the weight gain. This is so NOT me. Who is this person? They want me to be the neighborhood watch chairperson. I must do the most complaining. This is not who I want to be! This is the new self I have to deal with? I need a life. Smoking contained me. Now the beast is loose! Audrey, Hang in there! I'm not quite sure that we ever "break through to the other side." We are addicts and always will be. We can break the addiction but the emotional/social webs, I think, will always be with us. Now, don't get me wrong, is it easier for me today not to smoke than it was 6 months ago? Yes! What used to be a 500 pound gorilla riding on my back is now just a mere gnat that buzzes in my face every now and then and is shooed away with a little wave of my hand. I do believe that when we quit smoking, we learn things about ourselves that we never dreamed of. Because when we were smoking, we muted our view of everything with a thin blue veil of smoke. Now that we are out there, living life head on, not hiding our feelings, we have a whole new self to deal with. Don't get discouraged Audrey. Use this time to really dig deep and get to know the real you! Were you really happier when you smoked? I really don't believe you mean that! Maybe you mean you were comfortable? And confidence? You should be filled with pride and confidence! Look at that quit meter! You ARE doing this! And quite well I might add! When will it all come together? Well, when I was 20, I told myself that when I was 40, my whole life would "come together." Well, I must admit that I do have a good life but I still struggle with many of the same issues that I did all those years ago. Embrace where you are at! Enjoy what you have right this minute! Rejoice in the fact that you've not smoked in 149 days! You are doing this and you are awesome! Don't worry about the old you and don't go looking for the new you. Embrace the you that you are right now! Hang in there Audrey! And remember, we're all in this together! Hugs for you, Debbie My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 231 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,620 Amount Saved: $866.25 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 12 Mins: 53 Seconds: 54

I haven't whined in a while and I need a little help from my friends so here ya go...maybe someone out there can help me. When am I going to break through to the other side? Not sure what my stats are (can't see them while posting) but I feel I should feel comfortable with myself by now. This far into things you would think I would like myself better now than pre-quit. But no, I know I was happier with myself then still. It's like I'm stuck in purgatory or something, waiting for this new life to show up at my door. Actually went to the depression section yesterday out of concern but nothing seemed to fit. Don't get me wrong, I know all the gifts I have given myself by quitting, including making family happy and proud, but when am I going to feel comfortable in my own skin again? When is it all going to fall into place, like it used to when I smoked. There was no uncertainty then. Good God it's almost 6 months! I need my confidence back. You all would not believe how many times I've started to post and cancelled out. Are you old timers still here because even after years you are still where I am? Or are you just indebted? Guess the answers would be many. Miss the old me, can't find the new one. And tired.
