I used the gum once very briefly, I didn't like it. But I think it's supposed to work much like patches if used correctly.
It's supposed to make it easier so that you don't have to deal with "everything at once". The idea is you are getting a decreasing dose of nicotine as you learn to come up with coping strategies for the hand-mouth, the something to hold onto, the emotional aspects & psychological dependence.
If you do that & follow the program correctly, by the time you're finished with the lowest dose patch or gum, you have only minor physical symptoms to deal with. Minor because there is comparatively little nicotine in your system.
Cold turkey has never worked for me for longer than a few days. I have tried almost everything & have had the most success with the patch. Coming here was the best thing I ever did for myself but even so I don't think I could have kept a cold turkey quit.
Ultimatey, we have to choose whatever method will work for us & sometimes it's trial & error. Just remember, if you try one way & slip, get right back on with some other way until you find what works.
Rambler, with due respect, I strongly disagree with your opinion of nicotine addiction. Nicotine is highly addictive and is a dangerous and destructive drug in any form.
