Hi Audrey - I'm trying to remember when I went through my really angry phase (Gosh - I think I hated everyone...I was miserable with family, friends and at home...At one gathering with my sister-in-law's I think I used more swear words in one night than I have in an entire night) My advice would probably be a little bit different than others...You see, while some of my anger was justified, most of it was magnified 250 percent. Over time, the anger subsided and, for myself, I'm glad that I didn't act on most of it. On the other hand, I did come here and vent alot which made me feel a WHOLE lot better. I think that we change after we quit, but, for the most part, we become stronger/better. Unfortunately, along the way, there are afew bumps in the road. Hope your bumps get smaller and life gets better. Congrats on so many days quit! Audrey don't view it as burning bridges, all you've been doing is finally telling people how you really feel and not hiding your emotions behind that cigarette! If the people who have been in your life don't understand your right to speak your mind and defend yourself when you feel wronged, there's something wrong on the other end of the conversation (aka with THEM not you). People change, so can you. I'm finding this new ability to finally be honest with people so refreshing. There's also such joy in the clarity of thinking that comes with thoughts not smothered by that blue perma-cloud. Embrace that if you find it, cos this quit is all about YOU. If you burn a bridge, so be it. You can always build a better one with unblemished foundations, glued together with your new inner strength! I raise my glass to you, stick to your guns, girl. Audrey, Rewards are so important. There is an old post by Shevie that explains all the chemicle stuff in the brain and reward centers. It sounds a little far fetched but it really isn't. You are doing awesome and need to keep those rewards coming. They don't have to be big. They just have to be a something as a result of not smoking. You know that one friend that really gets on your nerves? You know the one that goes on and on about nothing and thinks their life is so bad when nothing is wrong? You may want to take this opportunity to tell them what you really think and then blame it on the quit ;) (that is suppose to be funny). You are doing Awesome! I a, making a pattern of beginning all my post with the phrase "No Offense" That should fit well here too... Anyway, I don't see how you can blame any of this on not smoking. That's all in your head. You are not acting any different because you do not smoke, you just believe you are acting totally different and looking for a reason to dislike the new you so you can go back to smoking. You may not know this but in the depths of your mind you planning your return to smoking. You need to know that smoking did not make you a nicer person, it did not make more fun to be around, it did not make you more appreciated, it did not make you scared to say whats on your mind. It did non of this. Smoking does not do anything to you but kill you. That's it. Nothing else. Your mind is now blaming not smoking for any problems that arise. Non-smokers have bad days too. Non smokers get mad at people too. Non smokers burn close bridges too. But you know what? At least they don't do it while killing themselves. 6 months is so great. Don't blame anything on quitting at this point. Chin up, Audrey. It definitely sounds like reward time to me, but I think Lady is also right. These are things you probably used to deal with by smoking & keeping it all to yourself. Now, your first reaction is to get it out & that's right but maybe take a minute to make sure you're letting the right thing out on the right person. Non-smokers learn this as kids or young adults, we have to learn it as grown-ups. In those 2 particular situations though, I don't think I would have felt any different than you did. Is it possible that rather than burn a bridge, you have simply pulled up the doormat? Lady, I think I might be a little resentful of my quit (not people who smoke). I getting a little tired of the LACK. Time to remind myself of the benefits that I'm beginning to take for granted after 6 months. There are soooo many improvements. Maybe I need a good old fashioned reward too :) Stickin, The neighbors were in somewhat of an emergency...deteriorating health of the parents of one of them. Thing is, one of them had a trip planned - that was not last minute, and if things were not going well with the parents a "hey we MIGHT possibly need you next week" would have been so much appreciated. Also my balloon was popped because I thought they were calling to THANK me for arranging to have the community mulched. Nope they only managed to complain to me about it before I had it taken care of :mad:! Jeni, I certainly am more insistent on being treated fairly!!! Maybe I could just be more tactful :quest: Hopefully running will help with ALL OF THIS, I hope I can get into it like you...
