There was a day when I felt better when I smoked and there are times when I miss it....but, honestly, although I hadn't yet developed the Smoker's hack - I hacked for a good 2 or 3 weeks after every cold (Not one cough this winter). Cigarettes used to relax me but, after years as an addict, they started to control me. I avoided social situations because I couldn't smoke. I became irritable when I was held up at the grocery store, had to work late or, for any other reason, was unable to smoke. I know that there are times when I am tempted but, for the most part, I think I am learning how to deal with stress better. I admire everybody for being honest with themselves and, goodness knows, that noone can make that decision to quit for us. Just know that, if you decide that you want to quit again, there is a room full of support waiting for you. I think it's great how we can all learn so much from other people's experiences :) These is a gr8 thread! Kiwi you've come too far, hang in there, this to shall pass. What I've learned from all this so far is that if you do your best and still slip, that doesn't mean u have to fall! But at the same time only slipping without falling isn't easy and my guess is the odds are that most will fall. But that's only my guess. That's why I feel that my slip was a blessing in disquise and all the pain that I did feel that led to that slip was also a blessing. Don't pray for GOD to take your pain away. Feeling pain brings us closer to GOD, & he likes that. :) I really wasn't very motivated to quit but those 5 cig's were soooooo bad that I am still feeling the poisons inside of my throat & chest. I think the whole thing was a "GOD thing" :)Now I really must get some sleep. Just breathe......... 2cents, I do believe that you will see things differently in time, and should that happen, we'll still be here to support you as you take another run at creating a new life for yourself. The one thing you can absolutely count on cigarettes to accomplish... is the wasting away of your life. And each of us has to decide for ourselves when we've had our fill of that process. Some decide early on. Some, like me, wait until a lot of damage has been done. And some stop smoking when they stop breathing, and far too often they stop breathing because they refused to stop smoking. And even for the very fortunate who don't suffer too much physical impairment over the course of their smoking lives... the one thing that's gauranteed is that they will live as slaves to an addiction. All active smokers become subservient to a compulsion, and, in practise, seek their own destruction. To slightly alter the old adage; "the man takes a cigarette, then the cigarette takes a cigarette... and then the cigarette takes the man." 2cents, as long as there's breath, there's hope. And we'll be here to encourage you to pursue that hope, if and when you're ready. Take care of yourself! Oh my, my, my. What a post. I could have never ever kept cigs in my reach. I would have smoked them up in no time. I have lost so many quits because of the junkie thinking. I lost them over and over and over because I listen to the junkie saying I could do it. Who cares anyway. I will have a couple and no one will know. Yeah, you know who knows? YOU!!! If you are not ready, so be it. If you want to continue to smoke them do it. But I will share with you what happened to me. With all my relapses the one constant was this site. This group of people get into you mind and they just hang on and wait for you. :) I would come here and check up on how my "friends" were doing. I would see the new comers doing it. Soon I came back and you know what they were here to help me again. We will be here when you are ready. This is the longest I have stayed smoke free and this post is reminder of how easy it is for someone to relapse. When I first read it, it scared me. Now as I write it is making me more dertimed to stay smoke free. 2cents I can imagine it would be very easy to talk yourself back in to that one little puff but you have proved to anyone reading that just that one can be a disaster - if your goal is to be a non-smoker. I didn't give up because it was bad for me or because I wanted to see grandchildren grow up (I haven't got any!)but because I didn't always like the taste in my mouth afterwards or the smell in the wardrobe and on the furniture. Also, it is so much easier and more straightforward to just be a non-smoker. Tresa's little story rang a bell. It's little moments like that that are good. So, I'm sorry you've gone back to it but glad you had the courage to come on here and tell us about it and hope you do decide to come back if and when the time is right for you. Its strange how a quit can be so hard , then one day you dont just smoke any more and it feels very good. I was in Kmart just 2 days ago in the check out line, and as i got ready to get my bags and leave the cashier says miss you dropped your cigaretts on the floor, i looked down and saw two of them looking up at me from the floor, i told her NOT MINE i dont smoke ( what a good feeling that was, I dont smoke :):):):):). All i felt was wow at the price they are what a waste to loose your smokes. Hello Everyone, Smoking is a temporary short term lift or fix for the enjoyment of it or for the relief of pain and anxiety. Recall please �it is only temporary relief even if you take up smoking again�. Sure to cause additional anxiety later on down the line. Please don�t be concerned Janna as quitting is one of the best things a body can do. My mind has been made up and smoking is not in the plan. The longer a person stays away from it the easier it becomes. It is a matter of saying no the first time and every other time and it gets easier as we go. Strength to all of you and pay no mind to those smoking thoughts. Let�s see, I�m pretty proud of me! Are you proud of you??? I hope all of you can hang it there and I hope you get to feeling better. This string really scared me. I read through 2cents' post and related with alot of the way they feel. I felt so much better when I smoked. I was never sick. All my annual physicals came back great. I had more energy. I miss my best friend (the cig). I felt so much happier when I smoked. I love the warm feel of the first drag. I am on day 55 and I am still having a damn tightness across my chest that just will not go away. I was probably better off when I smoked. I should go get a pack now and stop my misery....... ..... oh, right.... I almost forgot.... I want to live. I want to see my daughter grow up. I want to not stink like a bar at 7:00 in the morning right after my shower. I want to be able to breathe and walk a flight of steps without hacking up a lung. I want to make decisions that are not completely based on whether it will interfere with my smoking schedule. I DO NOT WANT TO BE A SLAVE TO THIS DRUG ANY LONGER!!!!!!!! 2cents - you are right, you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Your post made me realize... I WANT TO BE A NON-SMOKER. I did feel better when I smoked. I do miss it. But not enough to ever do it again! Thank you for being honest! Please come back when you are ready!
