Michael P, Thanks for the post. To answer your question, I think that the Doctor thought the Klonipin/Lexapro combo would work better for the panic. But I have had such good luck with the zoloft I just think that if we had increased the dose by 25mg I would have responded better than a total switch of everything. These panic attacks are horrible aren't they! Good luck to you.

Linda - if the zoloft and xanax were working, why did you switch - did I miss something? Nurseboy - sorry about all that has happened to you...you seem strong tho... I cant tolerate meds....am on 5 mg prozac and .25 mg klonopin.....Im still afraid to face my fears, etc...this dosage is enough to get me thru my stressful job, etc but I have trouble traveling, socializing, etc...i increased the prozac to 7.5 3 days ago and klonopin to .375 and dont feel well....perhaps I should just go back down OR should I give it 4 weeks, etc...Im so confused...i hate this illness, esp since I have relapsed and gone into remission several times over the last 15 years! Its hard to imagine that 1 year ago I was completely in remission and now am not!

Hi Lisa, I can relate to switching medicines. The first thing I would suggest is don't worry so much about the feelings you're getting (jittery, etc.) That is, if you are worrying about them. Those feelings are probably normal, and I know when I switched medicines, the worst thing for me was to worry so much about the "weird" feelings I would get. They should pass soon. Although I do not know anything about Lexapro, I can tell you that I have been on Klonopin for awhile, and I think it definitely helps. My doctor told me it acts just like Xanax, but that it stays in your system longer. And it takes about 45 minutes from the time you take it to start working, whereas Xanax works much quicker. I am also on Xanax, but I think that's good you're off the Xanax now. I heard it can be very addictive. I hope this helps a little bit. Michelle :)

Nurseboy, "A little knowledge" is just a saying from where I come from. I just meant that knowing a great deal about our medications and conditions can make it harder to treat us, because I tend to question everything instead of "riding the wave" so to speak. Thanks for your post and I do hope everything gets better for you with your wife. Maybe she is just frustrated and doesn't know how to handle how you are feeling. Women tend to try to want to fix everything and when we can't it gets frustrating. I know, because my husband has OCD and it took me a long time to adapt to his behavior. Once I realized that I couldn't change him and all I could do was support him, things got better. Hang in there, but most importantly...work on you! Everything will get better as a result. Lisa

Ride the wave! It always gets better. Especially when it can't get worse. Last week my wife left me and took my son. I was shorted $300 on my paycheck and my ocd/panic peaked. This week i am better. Why do you always say that you have a little knowledge being and RN? I have a lot of knowledge on anxiety. That, I feel can be worse than a little!

Thanks Michael for your response. I had panic way back when I was 22 was treated with xanax and psychotherapy for a few months and was fine for 17 years. In 2000 I just wasn't feeling good, not sleeping, achy, so Doc put me on zoloft 50mg which was great. Over the last year my stress increased, hormones changed, and I wasn't sleeping, then bango my Aunt died very suddenly. I again called my Doc, because at that point I was experiencing panic almost nightly so he suggested increasing the zoloft to 100mg which didn't help, but I probably didn't give it much of a chance either. So long story short me being an RN I took it upon myself to call my Doc and say "hey look...I want to use my 50 of zoloft and add .25 of xanax three times daily and go back to psychotherapy. Within a month I was 100% better, but I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia which would explain why I was not sleeping and aching. I had a consult with a psychiatrist also, who thought that a change would benefit me, but it's NOT. So that's my story! Tough to be an RN on top of it all, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing sometimes :|

HI Lisa Switching meds is always a tough choice and you always second guess whether you felt better before or after. Why did you switch - i would imagine you were not happy with the results from your prior meds? Go with your gut but also give it a bit of time unless you are really feeling ill on this latest combo...Im going thru the same thing and am quite confused myself. Good Luck Michael

Help anyone! I had all my medications switched around 5 days ago and am feeling worse than I was. I am weaning down off zoloft, I have started Lexapro 10mg, I stopped xanax and started Klonipin. I am jittery, tired, miserable, don't know what to do with myself, nauseous. I am wondering if I should have just stayed on the zoloft or should I just ride it out. Feedback PLEASE! Thanks Lisa
