Cheermom,
I completely understand. My hubby & I quit together. Actually, I only quit because I so desperately wanted him to quit. It was his idea. He has the horrible cough that scares me. I knew that if I still smoked, he would never quit.
We opted for hypnosis. It was wonderful. He did find it harder to curb his thoughts on smoking. But it was wierd for me. I kept on waiting for him to say, "Okay, lets go smoke". As we had done so many times.............. But he didn't.
Then at 20 days quit, we went on a trip to Laughlin, Nevada. I thought for sure it would be a miserable trip..... But it was the best!! At least for me. My hubby couldn't hack the drinking/no smoking part. And we went with a group of partiers.... So he bought a pack of cloves. He smoked only a few, but he still smoked. When we left, he threw the rest of the pack away. I was so proud of him. I was horribly discusted with the smoke in the casinos. Not smoking was not a problem. It was wierd.....
But when we got home, he took up cigar smoking. However, he inhales. GROSS!!! And now he up to several packs. I still enjoy the smell of someone smoking. I will purposely breathe in deeply.......
I sometimes feel like it is not fair. But, when I grew into my quit, I knew it was for me, and me only. He always appreciates the fact that I fought it out. He still wants to quit, but "it is not the right time right now." I knew he means well. The nicodemon just has a hold on him right now.
Be sensitive. Be strong. Do not let his smoking build a wall between you too. Keep taking each and every day to tell yourself that you are quit. You are living! Make sure you know how AWESOME that is!!
Your quit is yours alone. He IS watching you in your quit. Make sure you voice how proud you are of how wonderful you feel. It does make a difference.
Hang in there. The smoke passes............. It won't have a hold on you forever. But DO NOT give in. You are quit ~ and that is WONDERFUL!
