Good for you... hang in there. I run around with little sayings... mantras in my head. N O P E. smoking is a choice... I Choose NO Smoking is NOT going to chnage the situation... and one ..yes one puff and on top of what I am going through If I have ONE puff, I will be looking for a place to smoke.. do you have enough.. will you run out.. where can you light up.. and then OH CRAP YOU STINK. we can do this... one minute, one hour, one day at a time. WE ARE NON SMOKERS. remember to actually picture yourself in situations.. all kinds of situations..... with NO cigarette... you are a winner. New Me, I can fully relate to the feeling you spoke of. You said that you felt like you had nothing to look forward to... Early in my quit I felt that way too. When I was still a smoker, the first thing I did when I walked out from work was light a cig... When I first quit it was kinda depressing when I would get off work... That's when I had to retrain my brain. Find something else to look forward too. If it is nothing more than your favorite song in the car... ANYTHING to keep the quit. I also took Chantix for 6 weeks... when I first stoped taking the Chantix I did feel a little increase in the craves, but it didn't last to long... hang in there, it does get better!!! Hi Penguin, I really do "hang on" to that saying..one day closer to never having to feel this way again. Quitting smoking, for me, has been a very looooong journey. And, getting off the chantix was my last security blanket. I finally believe that I can really live without smoking. One of my big upsets was that I felt like I had nothing to look forward to..it was depressing. I am getting better. Looking forward to accomplishing normal tasks, going on a trip, updating my condo, etc. How sad that smoking was the activity that we looked forward to the most. Nicotine is so addicting; sickens our bodies, twists our minds, numbs our emotions. I certainly still have that "empty feeling", that "nag". Hopefully that will continue to get better day by day since I am off all forms of NRT and the chantix. Thanks for saying hello, penguin..we are both coming up on our 1 year! WOW! New me Glad to see you are still in this battle with us. You are going to do this, I know. Just remember...you are one day closer to never having to feel this way anymore. We have worked too hard to get to this point, only to throw it away for a stinky but, and then have to do it all again. Not me...not you either. One minute at a time right now if that is what it takes. Glad you posted, because that is just what you are supposed to do. Look at you go! Congrats. thank you everyone, Yea, huh, FINALLY getting off all the nrt's and any other quit smoking aid that I could put in my mouth! I have noticed that the mental cravings have been stronger since i quit the chantix. Yesterday was pretty tough; I was very down, cried. But, I decided to just keep myself busy, and then give myself a nice reward..I went and had a pedicure while sitting in a massage chair. Rewards are important. The battle for me now is mental. In the past, I would "allow" myself to have a smoke. Not anymore. I cannot allow myself..not even a puff. A major victory for me has been being able to be around my ex or my roommate, who both smoke and not bumming one. AND not smoking those long butts they leave on my patio. I just crushed another one to bits this morning. Thanks for the concern, all. I am off to work. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 316 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,584 Amount Saved: $1,580.00 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 2 Mins: 4 Seconds: 22

New me, Welcome back and thanks for the update. Stay mentally focused on your quit. You've overcome the physical cravings of nicotine now so from here on in they are all mental. Work hard and keep your emergency coping plan close to you. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

I think you'll do just fine.... Like JIM says... PMA positive mental attitude... you have been in all situations as a NON Smoker.. I fin it is helpful to mentally picture myslef .... as a NON Smoker... No smelly hair or clothes... Think of the craves/urges like a psky fly or mosquito... swat them away.. My quit is pretty new... and I am trying to keep band-aids near by. I have found freezing my tongue with ice chips, a popsicle, frozen juice bar.... helps me.. If you've been off the NRT's for 3 months you'll be fine. It's all a matter of mental thoughts now. No negative thinking allowed. Only positive energy will do and you will be fine.
