Breathinggggg

Hi Angel :) Yes I used to think that way all the time. My anxious thoughts would spiral out of control creating more anxiety and eventually panic. I dont even want to think of how many times I have gone to the doctor thinking I had some horrible disease or illness over the last 5 years. {sigh} I remember one time this summer when I was in an absolute spiral. It started with me getting dizzy in the am and having some neck stiffness. I started walking around the house thinking of all the illnesses it could be. I acually convinced myself I had to have menengitis or a brain tumor or I was blowing a clot and would most certainly die or be totally incapasitated if I didnt get help right away. I called my doc and was petrified. On the drive over there I took a minute in the parkinglot before I went in and asked myself "Beth, how realistic are you being here?" and acually noticed how darned out of control that whole morning had gotten. (not a proud moment for me to be honest.) I started crying as I knew in my heart it was anxiety and it had gotten the better of me for sure that day. I went into the office and went in to see my doc. I looked at her and explained what had happened that morning and gave her my thoughts on it. "I think this is anxiety" I told her. She was very understanding and after checking me out physically, told me "Yep". I thanked her for her time, got back out to my car and bawled. I was really upset. I have been working on controlling those negative spiral thought processes since that day. Try to take time to do the breathing, relax your muscles and also try to work on positive thought process as opposed to the negative. I try to think realistically. Ask yourself "Is this thought process really helpful to me?" "How realistic is it that I could be ill?" You dont have to use that NEG/POS sheet, just do it in your head the minute you get an anxious thought. The more positive redirection you think, the better you will feel! Aniety is fear. If we all try to be less fearful, we can get control of the anxiety and feel better :) Have a Happy Turkey Day!! Beth

Angel, This is quite common. This is part of your panic cycle. Start working through the program and challenging those anxious thoughts! Danielle _______________________ The PC Support Team

thank you Casey, Beth and isabella for your wonderful advice. I will start doing more breathing exercises. I just find it hard to make the 'time' for it. Well, i have to regardless of my schedule. I just cant help but think i have a health problem. Do you any of you think this way? Does ur mind keep thinking and believing its a serious problem such as heart problem, lung problem etc??? I try not to believe these negative thoughts. But they just overpower me and really bother me. Let me know. Thanks a bunch. You girls are super sweet!

Hi Angel, As the other members have mentioned, you may find breathing exercises helpful. I will copy a post below which outlines this. It is important to take some you time and realize your body and mind need to rest. DEEP BREATHING: 1) Take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time. 2) Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of 7. 3) Repeat this 3 times, as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. TENSION RELEASING: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5)Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. It's a skill. You have to practice several times a day to make it a normal part of your routine. Casey _______________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hi Angel, I too have breathing issues as I like to call them. It's really weird! One minute I am breathing shallow fast breaths, the next I can be holding my breath (yup without even knowing it until I get lightheaded and say "Hey! I better breath here!!" lol) and then I get those breath patterns you were talking about. This for me all stems from my anxiety in any given situation. What Isabella said in regard to breathing excersizes everyday to keep a good momentum throughout the day is a good idea. I started trying it and it has helped me. I start with 4 count breaths in through the nose, then 4 out through the mouth working my way up to 7 & 7. You are not alone!! Hang in there! Beth :)

Angel, I, too, wake up sometimes gasping for air. It's as if I am holding my breath and I remember having episodes like this ever since I was in high school. I wonder if it could possibly be sleep apnea or something of that nature because people with this will go for a while without breathing and it can cause you to wake from your sleep. People who have this really bad wake up feeling fatigued and often have to take naps during the day. It is one possible explanation but you should probably check with a doctor on that one. I keep meaning to ask mine but I always forget to write it down. In any case, it is scary and I would like to know why that is caused too. As far as the heavy breathing, I just do breathing exercises daily and that has really helped with any labored breathing/shallow breathing/rapid breathing. Good luck with everything and I hope that helps. Atleast you know you aren't alone ;)

Hi everyone. Do any of you have heavy breathing EVERYDAY??? its so annoying....I have this every single day. It really freaks me out....i mean can anxiety do this to you alllll day long? Also, when you are sleeping, do any of you wake up suddenly with a breathing attack (just out of nowhere)? I wake up often trying to catch my breath suddenly. It really scares me because I was just sleeping and then all of a sudden this comes. I really dont' know what to think here. I keep thinking negative thoughts like my arteries are closing up and i'm gonna stop breathing one day.....i just want to cry. plz help
