Maggie, Yes it is possible. If you continue to remain focused on your phobias, you feed into your panic cycle. Break the chain by using coping strategies such as relaxation, distractions and challenging those negative thoughts. Hope this helps. Danielle _____________________ The PC Support Team

Yes i beleive it is possible because at my worse i was like that. Very stuck in my own little world with my own thoughts which i obsessed about and very very hard to reach let alone rationnalize with. KEep working the program and challenging your thoughts and taking good care of yourself and eventually as your stress levels come down you will become more like yourself again . But yes i beleive it is possible for anxiety/panic/agoraphobia to do that all on its own. You will be ok Maggie :) Anyway, hope this helped! -Diva If you need anything you know how to reach me :P

I have a general type wondering... Is it normal for a panic disorder/agoraphobic sufferer to become SO obsessive and panicked about 'their' scary thought/s, that they almost become impossible to talk to, or rationalize with? Without any other disorder involved, that is... Thanks.

Corrie, To my knowledge, there is no established link between the two. As previously mentioned, panic disorder has a great impact on many aspects of an individuals life and whether or not it will lead to a nervous breakdown will depend on many personal factors of that individual. Instead of worrying about a breakdown and feeding into your panic cycle, challenge those thoughts. You may be worrying about something that will never happen instead of channeling your energy into grabbing a hold of your anxiety. Keep persevering! I only ask because I wanted to rule out something to worry about. If it can lead to a nervous breakdown I will worry about having one until I actually do!! This is my mind and it scares me. Somebody just mentioned Nervous Breakdown the other day and I thought " I never thought of that"!!! And off I went into a panic.

Hi there. I'm afraud I did have a breakdown as a direct result of having panic attacks, BUT and this is a big but, that happened because here in the u.k there doesn't seem to be the support network, understanding, or referral agencies that you have in the states. You may think our NHS may be something to be admired, and sometimes I guess it is, but it does seem to be much better geared up for a physical complaint. So I guess my advice would be to seek and make use of this site and any agency, therapist, doctor or helpline that you can. Lots of people have panic attacks without a nervous breakdown, I was just unlucky, but even saying that, I've survived, and feel stronger for it. Hang in there, you can recover, I know you can.

I personnally have no idea if a panic attack can lead to a nervous breakdown. But what i would suggest to you is if you are very worried or if you feel you might be having a nervous breakdown, just either talk to your doctor about since they know all sort of things or if you are to shy to do that you can call a local healthline and they can give you more answers. If not i am sure one of our specialist on here will be able to give you better answers and advice then i can :) Till then, hang in there! -Diva

Is it possible for a panic attack to lead to a nervous breakdown? Are they connected in any way?
