do i have depression

for 16 år siden 0 466 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Not sure if it matters, but I'm not on meds anymore.  Went on for a couple months, then decided to go at it myself.  I've been off since somewhere around the April time frame.

It's really hard doing it on your own, but to see that sunrise, I'm willing to work through the night.  But this is what works for me, what works for you may vary.  This is your own little adventure, we'll share the journey and help where we can, but in the end you're the hero for enduring, and you're our friend for sharing as well.

Yea, and it's still hard...I'm fighting the fight of my life!  Rather, fighting the fight for my life.  How it happened personally, was that I had one good week, where everything felt great and nothing could penetrate my easy going feeling (I was on meds at the time, so that probably helped).  From this I found reasons to fight: my God, all of my family, my friends, and most importantly, myself.  The myself part was the hardest, and the one I still battle with.

After that week, I reverted back into my old agoraphobic, social anxiety self.  But just seeing the light, if only for that week, made me realize I could do it.  Gave me something to shoot for.  Ever since, anytime I have a thought that goes against myself, I challenge it.  Sometimes I win, many times I lose, either way I'm not giving in.  I guess that's my stubborn attitude switching to my favor...cheers!

A stubborn attitude is someone who believes so strongly in something, that they will fight any and everything to keep it.  Being stubborn is a unconscious trait, meaning you don't know that you can do it...yup, you're that good at it!

I've got the same trait, it adds a lot of rocks and bumps to the road to recovery, but once you find a way to transition that stubborn trait to wanting to get better, there's NO stopping you!

Karla,   Have you had a chance to challenge your negative thoughts? These can be use as a great tool when feeling down and are also a handy list to keep on you when you are not at your computer.   The members have also offered you some great advice on the boards. Are you able to identify with it?   Continue to work through the program and let us know how you are doing. As jhori82 has mentioned, we are here for you whenever you need us!         Sarah, Health Educator

You have a very stubborn attitude about the way you feel, Karla.  And that is a very good quality to have.

Sounds odd, but it means you have a lot of strength...you just have it all focused on something that makes you feel, well...down.  The road to recovery isn't instant, you may feel this way for awhile, but you can do this.  Try the tactics Breanne posted, they will be very hard and seem like they don't work at first...and I'm going to use a movie reference from "The Matrix"...everyone falls the first time.  Keep getting up, you survived 5 years in a violent relationship, and you can, and will come out on top with this.  I'll even be there to tell you I told you so.

Anytime you want people to talk to, we're here!  Some great folks on this board.

Cheers,

HEy Karla,

Sounds like you are having a rough time. Hang in there. It can get better. Have you thought of singing up on the depression Center? There is no problem with being on both. I must admit I am. Anyway, you are in my thoughts.

Karla,

Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling too well. Have you been trying to challenge your negative thoughts?
Below are ten questions you may find helpful in challenging your anxious thoughts:

The following ten questions will help you to challenge any anxious thoughts. When you have an anxious thought, answer some of these 10 questions:

1. Is it "true"?
2. How do I know it’s true?
3. Is it 100% true? (remember something that is 75% or 99% true is
    not 100% true)
4. What's the evidence for it being true?
5. What’s the evidence against it being true?
6. Has it ever happened before?
7. What's different now?
8. If it were true, how bad would it really be?
9. What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

Please feel free to add any tips or strategies you find helpful when trying to challenge your anxious thoughts.
