Uncommon Phobias

Assumptions are very similar to if not at times the same thing as what I call core thoughts. Although depression and panic often go together, they are different. 
Take the same core thought or assumption in a person with MDD and a person with Gad. 
The assumption being because yesterday and the day before were bad today will be too. 
In the depressed person the situation looks hopeless and therefore not worth trying. In the anxious person the situation still looks hopeless and it will be a lot of worry about how they will get through the day. Life slows down but they still function. The depressed person wants to go back to bed. Both situations can cause panic. The amount in this case depends on their medication or degree of their condition. In both cases we are talking about the heavier degree of these two conditions. In lesser degrees CBT can change the thought pattern causing the assumption. But it takes time and diligence. I feel the best way is to go back to the root of the cause which could be a core belief or just a life situation. 
I try not to assume anything without proof because they usually prove wrong and even when they are right in my eyes they are sometimes still wrong by interpretation. Boy this one can get you into a lot of trouble.

So how do you deal with assumptions and first off how do you recognize them as assumptions and not facts? I'm from Saskatchewan, similar to Missouri. We have the same saying, "show me." This I ask myself.

I would like to add that the core beliefs they have in the depression center would probably need to be tailored to the panic center. I am sure this would take lots of time and resources to do...

One thing I did learn over there is about assumptions..Negative thought build on past negative experiences..
Example would be...If and Than thoughts..If I do this , Than this or that will happen..
 
Take me for example I struggled to survive most of my life and also I grew up thinking I didn't deserve to have things..
So I have two negative assumptions going on which I have to challenge...
 
Negative assumption. If I spend money I will be penniless..This is really not true..I just need to be careful how and what I spend money on..
 
Negative assumption. I am not deserving.. This is just not true..I am very deserving. I have worked hard to have what I have and I deserve to have nice things once in while..new shoes, new socks, etc..and some others things that I just enjoy..
 
I don't know if I explained this very well but you know what the first thing I bought for myself eight years ago was some new socks..and some new T shirts..It is still difficult to spend money at times but I remind myself that there are things in life that I just need and deserve to have and as long as I am careful everything will be just fine..

Great advice on core beliefs..
 
I sure would be helpful if there was more information on core beliefs here on this site like they have in the depression center..
Working on core beliefs helps a person get to the root of their problems..and therefore makes change much easier.

That is not a phobia, it is a core belief and was at one time a positive one that has now spun off negative core thoughts based on it. The three basics of change can change it. They are attitude, perception and belief. You need to build a new core belief based on justification. EG. It is okay to spend money if there is a valid reason even if it temporarily exceeds your budget.

Not much information on core beliefs here.
