Perth, Sometimes people actually have more energy when the sleep only 7-8 hours a night. Too much sleep can actually make you more tired. It is recommended that the average adult sleep between 7 and 8 hours a night to get adequate rest but not too much. You will be tired when you get out of bed in the morning but that is also normal, this feeling of tiredness will go away in the first 5 -60 minutes after you wake up, depending on the person. The hours that you sleep can also affect your level of tiredness/alertness throughout the day. Find out when it is best for you, it may be 10-6 or 12-8, play with is and record your mood to see when you feel best. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Many thanks for advising Brenna. I will keep doing the thought records. Well, I do not know, I think I need so much sleep, however, I am not sure. It is the same each morning .. it is time to get up and I just can't. I sleep so long until it's too late .. Many times I come to work very late, which is not an issue, until all work is done. And I do all work very conscientiously, many times even more than expected. So I try to compensate late coming with much work, which is a vicious circle I know, but I just can't get out of the bed mornings - it has been always difficult for me. thanks for listening

Perth, The thought records will really help you if you do them to your best ability. They will help you to better understand yourself, your depression and to develop some coping skills to live with your depression. Like Casey said, you are off to a great start and it sounds like you are already noticing some change so keep up that trend. Why do you sleep so many hours a day? Have you ever tried to sleep for only 8 or 9 so you can fit some more activities into your day. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Dear Casey, Many thanks for answering. So I understand from your comments that we should get a better understanding of the relations among our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I can confirm this, I notice this relation - it is just the way how I can win over the negative thoughts is not everytime clear yet. It is also a big issue for me to find the time to do the thought records - I have a full-time job and sleep a lot (11-12 hours) so there are not much time left to do anything else, and when, then there are always some other need-to-do's ... I really struggle with finding the time& chance to work on my thought records and the sessions... thanks very much for answering anyway

Hi Perth, Great to hear that you are working your way through the program. CBT for depression doesn’t work if you don’t do the homework. Keeping Thought Records is an important and critical part of this program. The payoff for all your work and effort with these thought records is that after some time and practice you will have a much better understanding of the relations among your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job already and are gaining much insight into your feelings and behaviours. Fellow members will be by shortly to share their experiences with the thought records. Casey _____________________________ The DC Support Team

Hi all, I just have a question.. What are the positive effects for you doing the thought records? I mean, I am doing them from time to time, try it regularly. So I decided to go over to the next session. On the beginning of the next session there is: "Hopefully by now you’re starting to get a little bit better at challenging them, and you may in fact be starting to notice some positive effects." I am just asking myself, what I should notice? I notice something, but not sure, if it is what I supposed to. So, it is for me the knowledge/impression that I blow up little unpleasant things and make them much bigger than what they actually are. Or there are some few information and I just fill in the rest of the story with black color. So I learned that things are probably much better than what I assume and things are not as disastrous as I see them. So, if anybody of you has also experienced the positive effects, could you maybe share, what you 'notice'? What kind of positive effects? What are we supposed to learn by doing the though records? Can anyone say? thanks for sharing
