overwhelmed

Mom of 3,  I have lots of ideas and have practiced them several times but being consistent is a problem for me.  I have a difficult time even figuring out what I am feeling.  It is easy to say I am depressed, sad, happy, but get beyond that and I had no words to describe how I felt.....I felt either "heavy" or "light".  Obviously heavy being down and light being up.  I got a list of emotions and when I started to feel - I tried to be more specific by identifying the physical things going on, the thoughts in my head and labeling the emotion more precisely.  I expanded my "emotion vocabulary" some!  I need to work on this more. I started doing this years ago - I mean like 15 years ago and still identify "new" emotions today.  I can get more specific all the time - again, I'm a work in progress.  I feel like being able to break happy into 3 or 4 different emotions is success - after all - one step (emotion) at a time.

After I figure out what I am feeling - genuinely! Instead of using a generalized emotion, it helps me be more aware and cognizant of whether it is, as you so appropriately put it, in sync.  I googled a list of emotions!  You can get alot of stuff on emotional theory - skip all that and just get a list.

Hi Goofy,

I wish I had awareness control on all the time too!  I could save myself alot of problems by being aware of much more than my feelings.  I just wish I had a good way of knowing which one is appropriate to be aware of when.  My feelings get in the way alot, other times I put them aside when I should pay attention to them - I'm just always out of sync.

Got any suggestions for that?

Mom of 3,

I like this one "Awareness is control".  I wished I could apply it consistently....but that's what we are here for!

Hang in there Goofy!  I know how you feel, I'd like to wake up tomorrow with everything all worked out.  However, I am told that slow and steady wins the race.  No pain, no gain...etc.

Let us know how you're progressing!

I think y'all (you all) are right!  I should slow down and take it easy.  I think the changes that will be implemented will be better, to go back and review.  I am able to print them out and work on them bit by bit.  I do think I need to hang with session 4 a bit longer and not move on!

Thanks for the encouragement and insight - it is such a grrrrreeeaaattt feeling to be able to discuss things with people who understand and are supportive!

Sheba, our IT person, has a great point.  I would love to be able to fill out the worksheets and store them in my computer.  This would be a great way to keep track and keep them private.  I really don't want the filled out paperwork being found by my son, for example.  Plus my printer isn't hooked to my laptop and I use it most.

Great idea Sheba!

For me maybe the thing that ia miss more is an electronic version af the worksheets. As I don't have always access to a printer. So it will be useful to have a word version or even better an online version.

Goofy,

We are currently working on a newer and improved version of the Depression Center, that will be launched in the near future. One of the benefits of the new program is that you will have the ability to jump from session to session, and to go back and review old sessions. If you aren't feeling like you have it together enough to move forward, then don't. It's ok! Take your time. If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break, and go back to it when you feel ready. There is a lot of info to take in, so it is best that you take your time and let the information sink in.

Members,  how do you find the sessions? Are you often overwhelmed?

Hi Goofy,

I can read sometimes, although right now it is harder to concentrate.  I have a novel that I started but have yet to finish, but with everything that I'm dealing with I don't feel like reading even though the book is right here waiting.  I, like you, would like to engross myself in a book, but it's just not where I am yet.

I'm sure it will be soon.  Hang in thee Goofy
