I have a place set aside in my house for meditation. I have things that represent things I like (i.e. canoeing, reading, camping); I have things that represent family (here and deceased); I have things I like to think about and spend time reading an inspirational message.  I use this space only for this purpose.  I have a small table and chair with these things on it.
I use deep breathing and relaxation techniques sometimes but I usually try to keep my head clear and focus on those things that lift me up.
A doctor once told me that during medical school, when he was trying to go to sleep during those grueling intern hours, he would pretend his head was in a box, void of everything and this helped him to get to sleep better.  It has taken some time, but I am getting there.  I like having those things there, it gives me peace, but getting things out of my head helps too.  Then I read my inspirational message.  I spend a minimum of 5 minutes.

Hope these ideas help someone.  It's my spot and I use it for nothing else.

Diva,

-Try to set aside some time every day to meditate
-Go to a place where you will not be disturbed
-Listen to meditation CDs
-Try to focus on something; your deep breathing, a relaxed part of your body...
-Stick with it

Members, any other tips?

It's awesome when we find something that works.  It also reinforcing when we hear it works from someone else.  I too try to meditate daily.  I also do tai chi and try to exercise if only for a little bit.

Meditation helps me.

I had a panic attack once and my girlfriend really helped me through it.  She told me what was happening and told me to take deep breaths.  BOY that helped..... I now try to breath deep and relax everyday - - - It has made a HUGE different in stresss-  I also do not grind my teeth as much now

hi windsy!

I am surprised that the grounding is giving you trouble ... I  usually find it nice to have that outlet to release the junk from the day and to have that solid feeling.  Recently, I have been given a new ground!!! through a spiritual chanel.  I had been using a cord or a tube.  And now I am sending "roots" to finds pockets of energy into the earth...

I hope the thought records are going well... and that you find a "comfortable" routein that puts you at ease.

Very good that you are keeping up with your meditation.

You sound like a very strong and driven person. You will be able to get through this.  Keep working on your meditation and working through the program.

Members, please help me to welcome windsy.

Hi Ashley:

When I am all wound up it is hard to meditate but I will when I go to bed tonight.  If I do my weekly
goal I will go to a movie with a girl friend.

The reason I have not been on the internet is since June 17, 2009 my pdoc increased my medication,
and tonight I just put it all together.  I am having serious side effects with this increase, and problems
at part time job doesn't help.  I left a message for my pdoc to call me, or leave me a msg, as I
mentioned some of the side effects.  I have had a very rough 3 weeks.

I start my summer program tomorrow for 6 weeks and I have the stomach flu today.  I will go
regardless if I am sick as I have annoyed my supervisor already on Friday.  Have a good week

Hi Windsy.

Wow it sounds like you are doing great.  Do you find the meditation helps you? Meditation is one of the top three stress relieving activities, so it is excellent you took  it up.

Why have you stopped being on the internet these past few weeks?

Good idea to restart the program.  It contains a lot of important information.  Take you time to complete it.

It sounds like you have a great goal for this week.  What will your reward be if you complete it?

Stay strong and keep posting!
