Hi, Gabbi. I have never been formally diagnosed with any particular label, but I do know that when things are good, they're really good and I'm like a fireball...when things are bad, I become depressed and paranoid and angry to the point of destructive rages. I took Zoloft many years ago when my ex and I separated for a time. The zoloft made me worse, too. I couldn't sleep, which made me exhausted and unable to focus all day, and I couldn't eat, which for someone already prone to starving herself is really terrible! When I took that zoloft it seemed that every time I did have a negative thought, I got shivers and was sick to my stomach. Like I said, I'm no pro at this, I've never been formally diagnosed, but I do know the zoloft didn't work well with my system for some reason. From talking to you on CBT buddies, I think we both realised we're alot alike. I agree with Paul, you may want to look into a different group of meds...Love to you, Liz

thank u gab! u are able to think positive. i was unable to do that for such a long time. i think paul certainly said a lot and gave u a lot of information. he knows his stuff! take heed and make sure u follow thru and go in with ur doc with as much info as u can. remember this is your life and u can control what happens to u. we dont have to let this illness win. how have your episodes been? i have been very well. i have been missing time tho. my tdoc is concerned. i will be talkin to my pdoc next week about maybe lowering my antipyscotic dosage a bit. but other than that i am well. keep me posted on u. i am here for ya! take care. and paul, thanks for all the good information. i learned alot from your post!

Gabbi, I was diagnosed with Mixed Bipolar Depression as a Major Depressive DO. We've communicated before up in the intro. I do experience mood swings, anger outbursts, explosive tendencies, anhedonia, depression, persistent severe anxiety, paranoia, mild delusional beliefs, but very seldom mania- I'm pretty sure the cocktail I'm on curbs it. I have had suicidal ideations and considered self-injury. Also, I am socially isolated. I think you need to recognize the gift that comes with your curse. Your are probably very insightful and emotionally intelligent- keep using this too your advantage to help others. You are going to be okay!!! It is often too difficult to subjectively feel this way- others have to objectively inform you. I took Zoloft for a while and it did not help enough. Zoloft, Paxtel, Prozac, Serzone, Celexa, Efexor, Buspar, etc are all SSRI's used to treated Unipolar Depression. You may benefit from a Mood Stabilizer such as Lithium, Lamictal, Trileptol, or Depakote. The latter 3 are anti-epileleptic meds that have profound behavioral effects in people not suffering from Epilepsy or Seizure DO. I have worked in clincial settings and have seen their effectiveness. Also, I currently take the first 2 I mentioned. Lithium is a simple salt and may be the best starting point. You will need occasional blood work to check levels. Also, if anxiety becomes too severe, Klonopin is an option because unlike Xanax, it it time released. Xanax is only good for Panic attacks because it's effects are short lived. I'm telling you all this so you can be well educated when you see your doctor; be sure to ask the right questions and let him or her know that you know what your talking about. If your doctor does in fact clinically diagnose you with BDO or some variant, you should demand to have effective neuroleptic treatment. I hope this helps and I got to you before your appointment. Good luck and let me know what happens.

gabbi, yea they can be med induced if you were just put on new meds. that is something to look into. i have had symptoms since i was at least 11 years old. i would definetely be talking to your pdoc about these symptoms you have been having. im not sure if i can offer much help but i am here if you need to talk. i am currently doing very well on my meds for bipolar and had not had an episode for over two months. i am feeling pretty good. ask me anything you need. i try to repsond as quickly as i can. so be patient. take care and just hang in there.

I have had pretty severe mood swings highs and lows a good few years now that i can say ive really noticed days where i feel i could conquer the world and then other days where i am suicidal and it varies.Does it run in families does anyone know?I will talk to my doctor about it but she is on 8 weeks holidays so i have to wait till she comes back. Can anyone tell me what the difference in medications are between depression(im currently on zoloft)and bipolar meds?Thanks.Gabbi.

Gabbi, did you have bipolar symptoms before taking meds for depression? Sometimes meds can trigger mania. If it is bipolar, please don't panic...it's treatable. If you talk to your doctor/therapist they may put you on different meds/therapy which could make things better. Good luck, ~Isil'zha veni~

Thanks for your reply Batty i am sure thats what i have but im too scared to tell my doctor i have noticed my moods go from feeling like i could conquer the world to being quite suicidal i have taken a few online tests and they have all said the same about having it but im too scared because i mentioned it to my mother a few weeks ago and as she works in the health industry i thought she would help but she got all weird and said dont be stupid its just your hormones if i found out i had bipolar i would kill myself they have a horrible time.So hence why i dont want to see the doctor about it.Gabbi.
