psoriasis

I have a condition called palmar plantar pustular psoriasis (stop laughing :p it's a real condition no matter how goofy it sounds lol, ok so I laugh myslef when I read it)...what those fancy $10 words boil down to is this: whenever I get stressed out I get hundreds and hundreds of extremly itchy little blisters on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. I haven't had a break out in quite a while but this morning I woke up with my hands covered in blisters. I keep telling myself that it's normal to be nervous about my quit date. Just because I'm nervous it's not an omen of impending doom. I keep telling myslef that no matter how bad my hands get Im not going to use it as an excuse to not quit. I guess I'm just looking for someone to tell me it's ok to be nervous that everyone gets nervous and it's not a sign that I'm going to fail. I'm also feeling more and more quilty about every cigarette. I keep reading about everyone's battles with Nicodemon and here I am still in his clutches. I keep reminding myslef that I am about to go on the biggest quest of my life. The quest to fight Nicodemon and that I'm spending this time well by gathering information about my foe, gathering the supplies I'll need (M&M's and sunflower seeds lol) and most importantly the gathering up of the support (warriors even) that I'll need to battle this monster. Ok so a few itchy blister aren't bad right? I mean it could be alot worse. If I don't stop smoking it will be a lot worse. N2k I'm still trying to understand this "southern drawl" I have to have my teens boyfriend repeat half of what he says because I can't understand him lol. Speaking of her, when she was around 6 or 7 my psoriasis was so bad it looked like I had radiation burns or something (doc said he had never seen a case so bad). My hands were so covered in blisters I couldn't feed myself or even brush my hair. So being the entrepanure (sp?) that my "little angel" was she would charge her frineds a quarter to look at my hands...I kept wondering why all these kids were showing up at my door saying "Miss Tina can we see your hands now?" So your comment about
Thank goodness! I would have had fun w/ that name
brought back memories and a :)... oh I wasn't smiling at the time I was pretty embarrassed in fact when I mentioned something to her a few years ago about her doing that she liked to have died of embarrassment "please tell me I didn't do that" she kept saying. hummybird Thanks for the support :) That was my motto for so many years "If I could quit for a day I could quit for the rest of my life" What I neglected to add was "and someone had better smack me if I get to big for my britches and think I can be a 'social smoker' after that" Well I've learned my lesson the hard way no 'social smoking' for me Rusty oh yeah I know all about the old psoriatic arthritis :( I've got about half a bottle of ultram (a mild pain killer) to help when it gets bad. Which is one reason I am thinking of setting my quit date earlier. I would hate to run out of pills and be in pain from my psoriasis AND the pain of withdrawls with no relief. Thank you so much for sharing that, Rusty, at least now I know that someone here has it too and it didn't detour them from quitting. In closing...look at all those days! N2k at 329! Hummy at 436! and Good old Rusty at 579! Such inspiration! I want to be you!!! I'm going to be you!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

My mother used to get that. I never knew what it was called. (Thank goodness! I would have had fun w/ that name) I'm pretty sure hers went away too. She's not mentioned it bothering her in over a decade. Anyway, it is beyond normal to be nervous about Q day. Take all the time you need to prepare. Preparation is key. However, if you feel most everything is in place and find yourself waiting around on Q day...don't be afraid to take the plunge sooner. *no pressure though* Just know~there's nothing wrong with moving the date up. JUST DO NOT MOVE IT BACK. (for ANY reason.) Mom used to get a cream from her doctor for her hands. Perhaps, there is something your physician could perscribe for you, Tina? :) All the best~ N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 329 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,245 Amount Saved: $1645 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 6 Mins: 8 Seconds: 55

I agree: Alan Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking definitely reduced the quit to a less than frightening size for me. I think that's what kept me from quitting for so long: the fear of failure & the bigger fear of the withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal symptoms I was so afraid would derail my quit were pretty much non-existent. In fact, I got so cocky & overconfident that my quit was EASY that I ended up convincing myself I could "slip" & then quit again. Which I proceeded to do several times until I wised up & quit for good. Anyway, what I'm saying is, your fears are unfounded. You can quit. That's the easy part. Learning to live your life w/out the crutch is where it gets a little tricky. You have to really want to breath deep again. You have to really want the health back. You have to say, "I don't smoke anymore," & really mean it. You'll think about smoking. You'll remember smoking. But you won't romanticize it because you'll remember it for what it really was: a smelly, nasty habit that gave you bad breath, a sore throat & a cough & made you do things & go places you never would have otherwise just to have a smoke. You don't smoke anymore. Period. By the way, I have a psoriasis-patch on my left hand that flares up periodically. I never realized that it might be stress-related. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I know what to tell the doctor. Cold Turkeys learn something new everyday... Hi, Tina. Listen to N2k. She's an expert on preparation and pre-quit jitters, even if she does talk funny sometimes. :) Feeling guilty about each cig is good. Any negative emotion attached to smoking is good. It's much easier to quit something you don't like. That's the basic theory in Alan Carr's book. It worked for me and I never read the book, lol. Oh, and the itchy blisters won't kill you. Hi Tina, Nervous? Shoot, I was a wreck! Dont worry about it. Once you get over the starting part, youll be amazed at how well youll do. My brother once told me that if he could quit for just one day, he thought he could quit for good. Several people have moved their quit day forward while they were really revved up and excited. You can move yours or keep it where it is makes no difference to anyone here. Well be here whenever you start. :) Not cravin', never cavin'. Hello tina, I've enjoyed watching your preparations to quit! I think your sense of humor will be your biggest asset! As far as the nervousness///I think you'll find that once you actually begin, you won't feel so scared. I think you're right to consider moving up your date. If you are ready now (seems like you are) and your enthusiam level is high (seems like it is), then I say go for it! No matter what you decide, stay close just as you have been! This site is awesome!
