That was a very nice piece of writing. I will tend to my garden, it has been neglected for far too many years.

I am glad to see you as well and also happy that you are remaining smoke free...Yea winter gets to me alot...But I do find things to do with it that makes it all worth while.  I think the holiday season is difficult for a lot of folks...In any case stay well out there...Those two years suit you well...

Nonic,

So nice to hear from you again.  I always felt connected to your feelings as they build up inside of me also.  Winters are always difficult, to much time alone with my own thoughts, and that can be dangerous!

Happy Anniversary, and keep well.  I know you told me once before that you know that it comes and goes...just keep thinking of that garden, I will too, it will get us there.

Best to you,

Kelly

And how.  Tough as old boots, as they say - I've somehow managed to pull out of my latest aggro so thanks as always for your kind words.  It's been a great ride with a kindred spirit leading the way and I so enjoy reading your terrific insight today as I did three years ago.  You just find the right note and hit it, hit it with vigor.

Keep shining your light around here, you give of yourself something not many are capable of.  For me, you have been indispensible and for my quit you have been an inspiration.  Wishing you well doesn't cut it but you know how I sincerely mean that so, 'nuff said?!

Oh my favorite traveling companion, it is good to know that you are still here.  You and I are not seperated by many days on this quest and that affinity has always given me a sense of comraderie.  Thank you for that and for being here.  I hope that things are well with you, I sense that perhaps this is not the case.  You alluded to some difficulty in a recent post.  I do hope that you are applying that Spartan spirit of yours and that resolution with soon be yours...I know you have the resolve now all we need is the solution...Lets see now resolve and resolution...Ok lets put those together...These two words must derive from a similar or identical root (I am not sure)...Perhaps they are one in the same...

Thank you for your kind words...I do in fact derive a portion of my living from writing...I am what one might call a ghost writer.  When people who are known for writing can't be bothered to do it any more they need a surogate and well that's me.  I do all kinds of things.  That includes writing letters for my neighbors when they need to promote their business or are having difficulty putting their thoughts together over legal affairs and other concerns.  I kind of like all that...Most of all I enjoy bending words around melodies and creating songs.  It all works for me...

Thank you for all that you do here.  I know it can be difficult, because this is such a hard addiction.  I know that this site helps many people and I hope that you take a measure of satifaction from the work you do so well...

Brenda:

Oh yes I really did not choose the date, I think it more or less chose me...It is the day of the longest night.  I recall that I was traveling alone, south bound on the NY Thruway and it was very late (almost early in fact).  I was at a very low point. It came to me then, that if I allowed myself to sink further, I would not have the strength to extricate myself from the things that weighed on me so heavily.   Funny how some moments become embedded in memory with such clarity.

In any case, at that moment,  I made a mental list of the things I would do to return to life. I was aware enough to realize that I was physically, mentally and spiritually drained.  However, I still had a core of strength and I resolved to apportion a measure of that strength to each of the tasks on the list.  One of those tasks was to end smoking.

I put my rose-colored glasses away a long time ago, so all of this was done in a rather business like fashion.  I did in fact underestimate the amount of effort cessation would require.  However, it was a good starting point, because in order to be successful, I had to force myself to take on other activities such as running, weight lifting, dietary study etc.  In many ways the goal of cessation was a spring board to discovering many things that I had either forgotten or buried beneath a blanket of grief.

Through out all of this I have come to the conclusion that there are three things in life that are essential (for me that is)...The first of these is awareness, the second is acceptance and the third is appreciation.  Applying these concepts to my existence allowed me to become smoke free.  And that makes me very happy...Even on the day of the longest night...
