patch question

for 18 år siden 0 2039 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Gonnadoit, here in Canada the patch also comes in 7, 14, and 21 mg. However, about 7 years ago I ran across a new brand that came in different increments again. The only difference with these ones was that they told you definitely not to wear them at night.(I haven't seen this brand this time round.) I have to wear my patch, I'm not taking it off until I finish the program. So I would say all patches basically do the same thing with 7 14 and 21mg being the most common increments. I find the generic patch works just as well and I am following a 12 week program. 6wks at 21mg, 3wks at 14mg, and 3 wks at 7 mg. I learned from a previous quit, where I stepped down from 21 mg to 14 mg after 2 weeks, that this was too soon. The quit didn't last. I don't really know as this helps any, but that's my info. Because of the Kangaroos different pouches.... Ok Gonnadoit usually NRTs are used over a 10 week program I stayed on it for twelve, maybe you can stretch the lowest patch or another whatever you feel is right. I used 2 different kinds first one had side effects bad muscle pains, I switched on the second week and then it was fine. Like you I couldn't have done it without the help so go for it and keep on quitting. ;pMarie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,425 Amount Saved: $380 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 12 Mins: 43 Seconds: 4

Gonna you're probably right, I looked it up and I saw a sight (US) saying the lower dosages were discontinued. I don't know what it's all about, here we have the patch, gum, inhaler, no losenges !! any hoo have a wonderful weekend :)your quit buddy Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,431 Amount Saved: $380 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 14 Mins: 6 Seconds: 43

Jan: The ones you ran across previously are probably the same brand I found in NZ, because I ran across some old info where that particular brand was available here as well. In fact, the company that makes that patch sells NRT sprays, inhalers and lozenges here in the US. The only thing I can figure is that it is some sort of regulatory requirement. Cuts down on the competition/politicians with investments in the drug companies, etc... My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 417 Amount Saved: $64 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 20 Mins: 39 Seconds: 55

LOL MARIE!!!!! That was cute---Kangaroos! Thanks for the response. BTW I made a mistake in my previous post, those NRT from NZ I ordered are in 5, 10, 15--no 20. I guess I am pulling a Phil here and kind of experimenting. The reason I am dropping today in strength and trying to shorten the course, is because there was only a two week period between quits that I was patch-free. Compared to before, I breezed thru last week on the 21 and feel fully comfortable with dropping the dose. My 2 week return to smoking was only at about 10 or so a day...(I was sneaking and couldn't fit in anymore than that without detection!) I know what to expect and I always keep an extra from whatever I dropped from around just in case. I have switched back and forth between different brands without effect and once when I was on 14 mg previously I ran out and used two of hubby's 7 mg's without problems. Certain sites irritate me (anywhere on my torso for some reason). I'll let you know as I go along how it is progressing! Okay...confession time! Marie and a few others know where I am coming from! I had such success in my last quit with the patch, until I stepped down to the 7 mg. Hubby had twinges with each lower dose, but successfully completed the course. Already spoke with a Dr. who said I should be less concerned about the nicotine (remember, I was up to 3 packs) than the contents of the cigs (COPD). He said quit-no matter what it took. These past two slips were very close to my 70+ day quit. These are my plans: Been on the (US)21 mg this week. Next I use (NZ)20 mg for a week. Then (NZ)15 mg for a week. (US)14 mg for a week. (NZ)10mg for a week. (US)7 mg for a week. (NZ)5 mg for a week. Brilliant! Now, I fully realize that at some point I have to go it alone without NRT and I AM prepared for that. I would like to make this as painless as possible. As someone here once said, I am not a cold turkey kind of gal---I'm a warm chicken!

However, the original question I am still curious about...If England is on the same as the US, why the New Zealand difference?

Oh---and by the way, last time I fell down I had gotten spanked by the moderators for trying my mathematical skills at disecting patches. At least I've put my scissors away! :p

I did a bit of a search myself, but never could find an answer. I also wondered, switching brands at times should not be a problem, correct? I have switched between name brands and generic without problems...

Perhaps someone can explain this to me: In the US patches are sold only in three stages; 21, 14 and 7 mg. I had noticed during my last quit people from Europe talking about 20, 15, 10 and 5 mg. patches. Is this some sort of regulatory thing or what? I ordered some patches from New Zealand off of the internet (cheaper than if I bought them in the US)and was'nt sure if I would receive them. I did receive them complete with a customs sticker, so I am assuming while they are not sold in the US in increments like Europe, it is still legal to possess them. The nicoderm police have not knocked on my door yet, anyway (I bet it's the same law enforcement agency that comes to get you when you tear the tag off of your mattress!) Seriously, though, why the difference? Perhaps the moderators know?
