Welcome Suzi,

I can relate, it is really tough to deal with depression. But this site has been a true blessing. It's somewhere to turn to.
We are here for you. Keep posting, we are all going through this together.

Dad's and Daughters

I can relate to this on so many levels DJ,

I also have kids and the past few years I feel like i've been somewhat out of the loop. I've been quite busy with work and also disconnected mentally from anything that was going on with my family. I've recently just snapped out of things and realized how hard this must have been on my wife, because she was basically doing this alone. So I sat down with her and told her everything about how i felt and how I'm back, her husband is back and I also did a few special things for her! And now i think it's time that I have this same "Talk" with my kids. Their daddy is back and he's not going anywhere! Thank goodness for this site, it really has shed a new BRIGHT light on my life.

Is it okay to be needy while you are recovering from depression

I'm sort of experiencing the same thing. I have just recently began seeing a therapist. I think i've done about 5 sessions, 1 per week and although I do have a very busy life I feel myself wanting to talk to my therapist between our sessions. When I get those feelings I usually come here and check out what everyone is writing, or i'll post. This site always makes me feel much better, I even wish I had more time to come on here.Other than that, I'll work, spend time with family like goofy said, watch movies, go for walks, listen to music...

I found this relaxing for me

I read, I listen to relaxation music or piano songs. The piano has a way of putting me into a completely relaxed state.

Hope this helps.

Your top 3 list - Favourite things to do in your spare time

Hi Pete,

I agree, I think we'd like to hear about positive things! Just out of curiousity do you write music while listening to music or other types of writing?

My top three things I do in my spare time:

1. Exercise while listening to music

2. Spend time with my lovely wife and kids.

3. Outdoor activities: hiking, biking...etc

Great post, I'd love to hear what everyone else does, might give me some ideas of new things to do.

Not sure why I'm here

Hi there,

I agree, the benefit you get from this site ultimately depend on how you choose to use it. Some of the information included on the site may be things you already know but if you stick with the program and use the support group it can really help. This site has been just what I needed to help me really make a life change. Also knowing that people support me through this journey is a huge thing in itself.

Hopefully you will be able to benefit as much as I do azbrowneyes!

Goofy!
I haven't heard from you in a while! I hope that you've been doing well. I also like to listen to lots of music while doing anything. I make sure to play good tunes for my patients in the office, makes for a more relaxing experience.
Do you have like one main song (anthem) to cheer yourself up?
It's really good to hear from you, you've been such a great help to me!

Pete,
Really cool about you writing poetry! I should get back into writing, if i can find myself a nice notebook (i'm really picky about my notebooks).

Management

Jimmy,

Just reading over the last part of this thread. And I have to say I agree with your doctor. Everyone's situation is unique. Personally, I haven't used meds yet, i've been seeing a therapist and using this site and I've seen huge changes!

Give it some time and if after a while you need to try another method then go for it!
