Howdy Sue, without remembering which websites I've read them, I have read recovery stories before. Type "panic disorder recovery stories" in the google search and it comes up with recovery stories.
I'm on Cipramil and I'm improving all the time with it. How come you haven't told your friends about your situation Missdjrane? There's nothing to be ashamed off. If they are TRUE friends they will no doubt want to help you. You are just bottling too much up by not telling them. Panic disorder is not some far off planet illness that people with 2 heads get. It's a proper known illness. Let it out!!
Hi Ann, well I've just read your post. It's now a few days later. Your panic attack has no doubt finished though. That's cause they are harmlous. The more panic attacks you get over the more experienced your brain is getting at realising that these attacks are harmlous. In the future you will gain more confidence and slowly begin to realise that they amount to nothing. Panic attacks can be very frightening, trust me I know. But later in time you begin to see them for what they really are. Everything will be o.k for you Ann!!
Howdy Adele, I think it takes longer than 3 days for the medication to kick in. I could be wrong but I think it takes more like 10-14 days. I went around in circles during the first 6 months I had panic disorder. I switched medcation a few times. Over the last 16 months though I've had the same 2 types of mediaction and have improved all the time. I think it does take a while for people to find the best medication for them. It's basically a case of trial and error. Panic disorder is hard at the start. Remember, panic attacks are distressing not dangerous. They always dissappear into thin air!!
Howdy Toni! One should never get down on themselves if they tried. If you didn't try then that's more a reason to be down on yourself. You tried and discovered that you aren't recovered enough. In time you will recover more and you will be able to handle such situations. Setbacks are a part of the path to recovery.
HOwdy Didi7, I don't think you should get too down on your boyfriend for not reading books. My family are EXTREMELY suportive, but none of them have read a book. They rely on me to tell them all about it. My Mum comes with me to my psychiatrist visits. My family all are mini experts from listenning to me. Like most people I have a few close close freinds and the less closer friends. Everyone was supportive when I told them about panic attacks. My best few friends have been very supprotive and like my family are mini experts from me telling them about it. I just told them what panic disorder is and how I feel. Nothing special in the way I said it. U should perhaps try again to explain to your "walk it off" friends what panic disorder is all about. If they still have a bad atititude towards it then I guess u know who your true friends are.
