Hello, I am also new to this site... and newly diagnosed with depression. I started taking medications 2 1/2 months ago. I was taking Trazadone and Lexapro, and then 1 month ago, my Dr. added Wellbutrin to that. I thought I was feeling better... I WAS feeling better, but now my depression has returned. Has anyone had this experience? Please advise! I can't live my life like this, and I'm very tired of being sad and crying. Rain

Hi, Sunny. We don't object to sharing information about helpful books, as long as it isn't promotional stuff. We have some suggested books in our Outside Resources. As for URLs, please see Our User Agreement (click on Register to read it again).

Thank you very much for this link. I want to ask you if we are allowed to share helpful books we have read or links to any sites that we found helpful also. Thanks Sunny And I had a great trip. I had a flying phobia for 20 years until just 2 years ago, and I am getting better each time I fly :)

I agree with Sunny. Depression is hereditary. My mother, her mother, at one of her brothers out 12 brothers and sisters that I know of(probably more) suffer or have suffered with depression. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Yes, it's like having diabetes which you need insulin to treat. You need medication to treat depression. But medication isn't the cure all. You also need could counseling. My mother had the medication but no counseling. She passed away 10 years ago a very unhappy, sad person because she never got the help she needed. There was a stigma on people with "mental disorders" then. There still is but there has become more understanding of it. I don't share my problem with anyone unless I know I can trust them completely. At one point in my life, one day I was having gall bladder surgery,my son was in a severe auto accident. He was driving, his best friend was killed,he was severely hurt, didn't know if he would walk again and another friend was hurt. My son was 19 yrs old at the time. At that same time, my mother was dying of cancer(going through chemo, radiation, the whole 9 yards). I believe I had a breakdown at the time although never diagnosed. When I went back to work a month later, my performance was not up to par. I almost got fired. When they found out that I was on medication, they told me I had better stop taking it because it was causing poor work performance. They couldn't see that I was sick and needed medication to get better. They had it all turned around. People still don't understand that depression needs to be treated like any physical illness. The brain is also a part of the physical body. People say things like "get over it and get on with life". They don't even try to understand it. It's really hard when you live with someone that you love more than anyone and they don't understand. They don't understand that sometimes you don't need them to understand what you are going through, you just need them to give you a great big hug, tell you they still love you, that they don't understand but are still there for you. Well, I always said I could write a book about what I've gone through in my life. I'd better stop now before I finish that book right here. I'm willing to here from everyone, give support, and a shoulder to cry on

Hi Sunny. I hope you have a safe and happy trip tomorrow. We also offer a sister site, www.paniccenter.net which you might want to explore. there are useful tools there to deal with this, including a Panic Diary and Panic Program.

Hi Anne Marie, I also found out about this site through an email sent to me. Someone is doing a good job promoting *wink, I had no idea it was so new. I have a personal website which I started as a way of sharing with others about depression about 3 or 4 years ago, and it blossomed into more than that. It is now almost a reflection of me and has really helped me deal with my depression more than anything. I will definatly add a link to your site :) I hope to drop by once in a while and be of some support, and also find support, thank you for having this forum. I am full of anxiety at the moment because I have to fly tomorrow, I wondered if you would be dealing with anxiety here too, since it often seems to go along with most depressed people. I sure could use some help with it.

Hi Gail my name is Sunny, and I have been treated for depression for around 25years. It is hereditry in my family and yes, 25 years ago I didn't want anyone to know about it, but now I would tell the whole world it is kind of like living with diabetes, or some other disease, you have to take medication for that right? And so you do or may have to for depression. (That is all depending on the type of depression you are diagnosed with). Try not to feel ashamed about it first of all, and don't worry about medication affecting your work, it may actually help your work by putting you in a better frame of mind or helping to increase your energy. At least you are taking a step towards getting help by posting to a support group like this. Take things one step at a time, find out more about your condition and go from there. There is hope for you and all of us :)
