Effexor xr

I have been using Efexor 300mg daily for a year now. At some stage I remember having a bit of a set back and was then also given Seroquel 125mg. This seemed to work for me. About the negatives, you'll have that on all medicine. The only thing I can say is that in November of last year I stopped using both of them suddenly against the advice of my doctor. I still to this day can't remember much for about five days. I was very violent and broke my house down. I was advised later that it might be that I have to be on this for the rest of my life. I see it that way now, and see it exactly the same as someone taking tablets for his heart or blood pressure. The meds have really helped me and still is.

Peanut, I believe you're right that you kind of get immune to it. It's like a viscious cycle sometimes. Anyway, I'm going to try what I'm doing and see how it goes. I just don't want to be on something if I don't have to, but I may have to face the fact that I do.

Hi, My husband has been on Effexor XR 300 mg daily for now about 3 years. Doing well. He still has some episodes where he gets really down but then I believe that it is just the depression. I myself has been on 150 mg for now about 8 months. Doing fine also. I haven't heard of any long term or bad effects from this drug. I do know that if you want to go off of it, you have to be ween with prozac. Atleast that is what my doctor has said. I really believe that after a time you can become kinda like immune to the drug where the drug just doesn't work for you. But then I could be totally out in left field. Hope it helped some.Peanut

Well, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Effexor did help me, as did Prozac and Paxil before. However, when I started becoming depressed again, I had to look at the possibility that the drug was not helping. I have since been put on HRT for menopausal symptoms, and am still tapering down. I'm down from 75mg to 45mg, and so far am doing good. My doctor has said that if the HRT does not help with my depression, that I may have to be on an anti-depressant. However, I will do research this time and try to find one that doesn't cause such severe withdrawal symptoms as the SSRIs. But this is my story, and that's what we're here for ... to share our stories. I was simply trying to communicate that I almost was off Paxil when I went on Effexor and am now going through the same tapering off that I was doing a year ago. Good luck all. :)

Hey: I was on Effexor a couple of times before...once at over the max recommended dosage. My worst side effect was sweating. However, when you come off it, do it very, very slowly. All in all, it did me as whole lot more good than bad

Hi jojo, Please keep in mind, you may receive varied responses to your concern. Not everyone reacts the same way to all medications. What is not appropriate for some may be helpful for others. Please be sure to follow up with your doctor regarding any medication concerns. Casey ________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

I definitely wouldn't go on it after getting off. I got off Paxil, slowly, with serious withdrawals, but the depression came back so I started on Effexor 75mb about three months ago. Now, with still ups and downs, i've decided that's just part of life and am going off Effexor. Just this week i decided to take it every other day. the day i don't take it, i get the zaps about 5-10 times a day. eating helps them go away. but i'm determined to be off completely in six months. to me, with what i've read and experienced, anything labeled an SSRI is a :eg: bad, bad drug. it doesn't just help with depression and anxiety, it screw up the brain. after all, it's a chemical. and getting off is devastating. doing this while working is not easy.

Jojo, Be sure to follow up with any questions about stopping Effexor XR with your doctor. There are a lot of medications that must not be stopped abruptly, Effexor is one of them. Every medication causes each individual different side effects (because we all have our own make up). Although it may be helpful to share information, you should definitely focus on your side effects and how the medication works for you, individually. Hope this helps, Angela ______________________________ The Depression Center Support Group This message was edited by AngelaG on 12-30-04 @ 9:56 AM

Aim I got some information on the web sites with people and sites on Effexcor xr. was very scary but I think everyone may be different. My husband says I read to much but I believe Knowledge is power. Aim just go to the internet and type in Effexcor Xr and a lot of sites will come up prowse through them and you should find letters people have written about this drug. Myself didn't have many side effects just constipation dizzy and weight loss like you did. Aim when you stopped taking Effexcor xr did you have bad withdrawls? I had some this is what most people seemed to be complaining about and said they had to get back on it? jojo :quest:

I've been in and out of effexor xr 75 mg. 3 days a week perioadically for about 2 years. I, like you, stopped it when I felt better, but now I started it again. For me, I really need this. In my opinion, if it works well with you, that may be a good med for you. The only side effect I experienced was lack of appetite. I lost about 6 kg. in one or two months, but after some time, the side effect's just gone. Could you share with me where you have heard about the bad side effects people got?
