wow i can relate to this bf just the other day sombody said that id changed in a bad way that im short with people and that i should go back to being the nice guy i was needless to say i dont have much in common with this person any more shame really but their loss a few more people have said same thing but after explaining one or two things to them they now understand or seem to any way, i feel that i have changed very much, People say you see clearer like in your qoute clears the smoke from your eyes and the secret that it is a mind altering drug i now believe to be true. As i feel im coming out of a life i didnt really know and emerging into another life thats the same but the attitudes are different or may be like you i`m noticing the attitudes more and am prepared to sort them out now rather than hiding behind the smoke screen. I`m sure there will be people and freinds that i will leave along the way of my quit some i will be wrong to and some will be wrong to me but it is a journey i have to take and the out come can only be for me. So i say to all i know and all that i have known sorry but IT IS MY QUIT AND I WILL PROTECT IT ANYWAY I HAVE TO TO STAY QUIT. P.S Well done on your BIG 50 and all your postings BF your an INSPARATION to all of us :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 529 Amount Saved: 124.95 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 11 Mins: 5 Seconds: 57
Don't Settle for Less in Your Life Nicotine addiction taught me a lot of things...none of them good. Smoking changes us, and those changes happen gradually, over a long period of time. In fact, the personality shifts we experience due to nicotine addiction are so subtle, most of us don't realize our cigarettes are responsible for them. Anxiety is a common problem among smokers. I had my fair share of it throughout the last few years I smoked. I thought the tension I felt was simply the result of increased pressures and responsibilities in my life. I thought it was a "natural" part of aging, in fact. It wasn't until I quit smoking that I began to understand just how much addiction had influenced my belief in myself; my self-esteem. Nicotine addiction taught me a lot of things, none of them good. It taught me to avoid dealing with life by hiding behind a smoke screen. When something stressful happened, what did I do? Light a cigarette so I could think it over, of course! By the end of the cigarette, I often decided to let whatever it was go - and sometimes that was not a good choice. Smoking taught me to avoid, and avoidance breeds tension. I was teaching myself to settle for less by not dealing with life head on. Smoking taught me that I was weak. I felt powerless to quit. As much as I hated smoking, I thought I couldn't live without my cigarettes. And there was that nagging worry in the back of my mind that I was killing myself slowly, one cigarette at a time. I was in a constant state of subtle turmoil. It was such an awful way to live, but I settled for it for a very long time. Nicotine addiction does that to a person. The blinders finally came off and I quit smoking. Why? The tension in my life created by smoking had become unbearable. That's what it took for me to quit and to stick with the recovery process until I was free. And so I began my journey to freedom. That journey has taught me a boatload of lessons, some of them hard, but worthwhile nonetheless. One that stands out at the top of the list sounds deceptively simple, but the impact on our lives if we take it to heart is profound. It is this: Don't settle for less in your life. Smoking is a way of settling for so much less than we deserve. It's self-destructive be

Absolutely fantastic post BF. Hit every chord in me, I could have written that myself, it echoes everything I feel about smoking, and other things that are subliminal to that also get noticed within me. "I was teaching myself to settle for less by not dealing with life head on." THAT IS VERY POWERFUL FOR ME. BF I have also noticed that too about relationships in my life. Big Big Wake Up call huh. Love your stats! You are on the cruise ship now, hooray!! Many Blessings, Eve :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 85 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 686 Amount Saved: $255 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 5 Mins: 7 Seconds: 10
