Boo- We have the same quit date and YES we can do this. The truth be told I had a few drinks on Friday and well you all know the rest. No smokes since and the smoking made me sick and I felt pretty dumb. I thought I do not even like this, why am I doing this??? Now we are back up and will not be taken down by the horrible smokes!!!! This is so hard!!!.... I blew it... I was angry about something and bought a pack of smokes. I smoked one, threw away the pack and now I am sitting here typing away. I am wondering if I can do this... I'm looking after my aging mother, one of my brothers is in the final stages of liver cancer, another is waiting for a kidney transplant and the stress of it all is driving me to the looney bin. I need to find a way not use this stress as an excuse to light up. Hey Boo - I slipped after 15 days and got right back into the quit. If I can do it, so can you. Keep talking/posting. Yes, you can do this. No matter what happens in other areas of your life, you can do it. Quit again. Talk to us Boo. Don't smoke. I did the same thing. Threw away six weeks, when it became apparent that my surrogate mother was losing her marbles, very possibly alzheimer's. Our situations may be slightly different, though, because according to her, I'm the cause of her decline. So presently she's not speaking to me and may never again. However, I did learn that I do not handle severe stress well. I'm employing some deep breathing techniques, along with walking, and tai chai. The Serenity Prayer as well. Show up at Al-Anon at least once per week. Boo, if you want a buddy, let me know. I think I am about where you are now - both for length of quit, and family porblems/stress (of a different sort) and the feelings about maybe not being up to the job. I have hung in there today - but it has been touch and go. It's the depression that's doing it for me. We can do it. We can do it. We CAN do it. And tomorrow is another day. lets hope we wake up calm (ish) and smiling (ish!). ;) S My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 446 Amount Saved: 72 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 39 Seconds: 31

I am struggling with a lot of family issues as well. It is so easy to lose the quit and blame it on the stress. However, there will ALWAYS be stressors. I am the master at defense mechanisms to justify losing a quit. Afterwards it seems so silly, because I have accomplished NOTHING by smoking. Hold my hand and let's get through this together........................... Sending lots of hugs your way! :)

Boo, You slipped, now is the time to learn and keep going! Struggling to cope with stress is a challenge most quitters face. Your not alone! A few ideas * Keep a journal, phone a friend, post here or find a counselor. Illness of family member is hard to deal with and it may help to let it out. * Take a short break (an afternoon for instance) and do something for yourself * Get up & get moving, activity may help you release some tension/anxiety * Relaxation: hot bath, listening to music, getting creative, yoga, meditation, deep breathing or just sitting in silence. * SINTA: Smoking Is Not The Answer * Once you've taken a little time for yourself, do something great to cheer them up. This may make you feel better also. Hope this helps. Danielle ___________________________ The SSC Support Team *

Hi Boo. How are you doing today?? You certainly have a lot on your plate - but I think you know that smoking will not solve any of your problems - it will just put you back where you were, a smoker. And we don't need that!!!!! Just keep quitting - do it for you and for your health - you owe it to yourself! Let us know how you are.
